About 2 months ago, I got it. The itch. The piercing itch. About 3 months prior, I got my vertical nipple done and the once lasting effects of having a new piercing wore off much quicker than usual. My itch used to be sustained by a new piercing for at least half a year or so. Soon, I found myself needing a new one. 3 months was long enough, right? After all, I NEEDED it. Needed what was the question, considering I didn't even know what I wanted....just as long as I got another hole somewhere.

I wasn't so sure. Believe it or not, we actually wandered the mall looking for those tiny, stick-on rhinestones. When we finally found some, I handed over the cash and fled the store to a mirror so that I may stick one on my face to see how I'd look with the piercing. I loved it.
About a week later, I decided that the day had come. The itch needed to be scratched, preferably with a 16g needle. Together we pranced into Pleasures of the Flesh, our lovely, little hangout. Bill, the apprentice, greeted us and we chatted for a while. The nervousness of getting a needle shoved into my face passed as we talked and I almost forgot what I was there for. Zippy, mah main man, waltzed out from the back and asked what I wanted this time. I explained that I needed a monroe. The quest was on.
I filled out the all too-familiar paperwork and handed over my ID for photocopying. The cost was $50 and if I remember correctly, I think I may have gotten a discount. I can't quite recall if it was this time or another. Either way, I tipped him his $15 in advance, sure that he'd do a lovely job. I preceded to the back and laid in the "wonderfully comfortable the chair of doom". No, we don't actually call it that.
After some more chatting and sterilization, it was time. He cleaned the area and marked the spot where a needle would soon be passing through. I was satisfied with the placement and he clamped my lip, looking several times to make sure it was perfect. The clamp didn't hurt at all, but the fact that he was constantly flipping my lip up to check the inside did twinge a bit from all the pulling. After a few more tugs and pulls, I almost wanted to yell, "Just do it already! You are tearing my lip off here!" Finally, after a bit more checking, he asked if I was ready. I gave a drooly "Uh, huh" and nodded, getting a reminder to stay still, as he did happen to have my lips in a pair of forceps. Not being able to close my eyes or look away, I stared at my lip and watched the bulge of the needle as it was forced through tissue. Quickly, almost instantly, I watched it pass through and stick up almost dangerously close to my eye. I knew it was only my imagination that it looked that close. Yes, I felt it, but it was only a sting in my opinion. Some people say that you can feel the needle go though every individual layer of skin, but I suppose it just wasn't the case with me. I only felt it pop through and emerge from the inside of my mouth through way on my lip. Smoothly, he slipped the jewelry in and cleaned me up. I bled. A lot. Then again, I always am a gusher.
I thanked him and he sent me on my merry way. Off to Steak and Shake we went and I sucked on a smoothie....good stuff, man. Eating was awkward for a while and waiting to make sure all of the swelling had gone down before switching to a shorter post was annoying, but bearable. I cleaned it every day and swished my mouth with diluted mouthwash after every meal as directed by Zippy. All went well, except I developed a small irritation on the inside of my mouth from the length of the bar. After I had it switched, it went away, thankfully.
It's been a little over a month now and I'm loving it. I can hardly tell that it's there and it no longer gets caught on my gums. I can't even begin to imagine myself without it and can't wait to go out and show it off some more. I would advise everyone to get this piercing, but be prepared to be driven to the point of insanity the first few weeks by the long post. As for the itch, well, it still needs some scratching!
