After my sister suggested I get the Monroe piercing when I was talking about getting pierced while she got her ears stretched, I became virtually obsessed with it. A very cute and very unique piercing. I looked at photos, asked people if they think it would suit my face well, and even watched videos of people getting it. By that time, I really wanted it, and everything I had heard thus far had been relatively good about this piercing. I have had a few piercings before such as the tongue, the nostril, the navel, and of course the ears so I wasn't nervous about anything really, but that came along a bit later.
At A Glance Author anonymous Contact anonymous@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Unknown Studio Unity Tattooing and Body Piercing Location Florida As time went on, I began asking people if it hurt and what would the affect be on my gums. Apparently as I was told, it would push up the gums a bit, but that didn't bother me too much as long as it wasn't excessive, and the pain question was out of sheer curiosity mostly, however most people said it didn't hurt too much, and was very tolerable. I was getting more and more excited about this piercing, so decided to call up Unity and ask when they were closing. It was already close to their closing time, so yet again I had to wait.
The next day rolled around, the day to get my piercing. I was excited, and only a tad bit nervous at the same time. I would look at my face in the mirror anticipating the Monroe piercing and what it would look like, and where I wanted it placed. At around 8pm, I got back from the store, and my sister was at the house waiting for me to arrive. I got ready, and off we went to the piercing parlor. As we approached, I got very nervous. My heart started racing but not to the point of backing out. I was very excited that finally, I was going to get it done.
We walked through the doors, and were immediately greeted by the very friendly and knowledgeable piercer. The cost was a little high, 80 dollars for the piercing with a very cute diamond stud, but I anticipated it being a little more expensive. We talked for a bit, paid for the piercing, and awaited the sterilizing of the jewelry. Maybe 10 minutes later we were called in, ready to be pierced. Wow was I shaking in my boots at this point, regardless of the fact I have had painful piercings before. I sat in the same chair as I did when I got my nostril pierced, the area was cleaned, and the woman placed a purple dot on my face. To my surprise, it was perfect! Exactly where I wanted it. My sister was standing there taunting me and making faces, but I paid it no nevermind.
I noticed the table with the needle, lubricant, jewelry and clamps, and looked away. She smiled, and told me it did hurt but only for a second. She clamped my lip fairly lightly, and it wasn't the least uncomfortable, but was enough to keep it stable. She instructed me to take a deep breath, and when I exhaled she would pierce me. I didn't want to know when it was going to happen, but oh well. I took a deep breath, and exhaled on cue. She stuck the needle through, and my eyes began to water. While the needle was still through my lip, I uttered "Oh my gah, that hurt so bad". It really did hurt, contrary to what others may have told me. She laughed, and slid the jewelry through. She said that I did much better than the person that received the same piercing that day. She said the girl cried. I wonder if I would have gone through with it if she had told me that before hand? After the jewelry was in, I looked in the mirror and LOVED it! The piercing was perfect, other than the barbell being long to allow for the swelling. I was so happy, gave her a tip, and listened to the aftercare instructions.
At this point, my lip is still fairly sore, but not really swollen. A few hours after getting it done, it was swollen and red, but is fine for now. I cleaned some of the blood around it away, and am very pleased with the piercing and the experience I had. I will be going back to this same piercing parlor, and would recommend the monroe piercing to anyone. To answer a couple of questions, yes it does hurt, yes it does clank the teeth a bit, and it can snag if you're not careful, but all in all, it's definitely worth it! A very reputable shop that I went to, a great experience, and a beautiful piercing! Can't wait to change the jewelry.
