Ever since I was a little kid, I always had a fascination with piercings. By the time I was 17, I had 13 piercings. I loved all my piercings, but I felt I was missing one. One day during school, I saw a girl in my grade who just got a monroe piercing, and it was adorable. I loved it and I knew I had to get it done. I asked my parents if I could get one done, but a lip piercing to them was out of the question. They let me get my eyebrow, tongue, and nose done, but one thing they did not want me to have was a lip piercing. I showed them pictures online, and they said it wasn't that bad looking, but to them I already had too many holes in my face. For months I kept on asking them, but I knew they weren't going to budge. Then I turned 18 in August, and I was going to get it done wither they liked it or not.

We got out of school early due to skip going to a pep fest. We didn't have anything to do, then all-of-a-sudden getting my monroe just popped in my head. I had enough cash on me to get it done, so I asked my friends if they wanted to go and they were up for it.
We headed for Aloha Monkey, which is very close to my house and is where I got several of my other piercings. Their are rumors about that place around my town that it's not the best place to get piercings, but I love that place and the rumors are false. It's a very clean salon and the people who work there are very nice and professional. Anyways, we wake into the salon and I went up to the front desk. They asked what I wanted and I nervously said I wanted to get a monroe piercings. Even though I love piercings, I always get nervous with getting them done. Anyways, the lady at the desk asked to see my ID. I gave it to her, then she photocopied it and gave me paper work to fill out. She asked what side I wanted it on, and I said my left. But then I remembered I have my nose done on the left, so then I quickly said to the right. So she told me fill out the paper work and that it will be a couple of minutes so she can get everything ready.
I went and sat on the bench and did all the paper work, getting more and more nervous about to chicken out, but I knew I couldn't. I have wanted this for so long and I had to go through with it. I waited with my friend and sister for about 10-15 minutes when this guy Alex called my name.
He took me back, and my friend (One other person can go in the room with you) into the piercing room and told me to sit on the message-like table. I jumped up on the seat and he asked again what side I wanted it on just to make sure. He then gave me some mouth-wash, which I had to rinse for about a minute. I spit it in the back in the cup when done, then he took a cleaning-alcohol cloth and rubbed it about my lip to get rid of the make-up/bacteria, etc to stay free of infection. Again, very professional. Then he took a tooth pick, dipped it in ink, and marked where the piercing would be. I didn't like where it was the first time, so he washed about the ink and tried again. This time it was perfect. He then opened up the needles and equipment in front of me and explained the procedure to me. When done he asked if I was ready. I said I needed a minute to shake my nerves away.
After about a minute, I was finally ready. He put the clamp over my lip, and I held my friends hand. He placed the needle in place and I closed my eyes. He then told me to breathe in, then out. As soon as I breathed in, he pushed the needle in. The funny thing is, I felt absolutely NO PAIN. I felt it go in, but it did not hurt at all. It was probably the least painful piercing I have ever had. I was shocked. I was expecting it to hurt a lot, but it was the complete opposite of what I thought. I then looked in the mirror and it was gorgeous! I love it.
After that, he told me about the after care, gave me a sheet of paper with the instructions and a bag of sea-salt, and out I went with my new piercing. My friend and sister loved it. I went back to the desk, paid and gave a nice tip, and out we went. Afterwards, their was a burning sensation and my lip hurt when I had to talk. But I was told that that was normal so I knew everything was ok.
When I got home, I showed my mother. She was disappointed that I got it done without her permission, but she agreed that it was nice looking and not as bad as what she thought it would be. However, she still thought I had too many holes in my face, so she said I could only keep that, or my eyebrow. So, I took out my eyebrow. :[ But I love my monroe so much more then my eyebrow.
Several months later, it is all healed and I love it. I do have to take it out for work, but all I do is just take out the ball and you can hardly notice it. I only cleaned it twice and it hasn't gotten infected or anything like that. I bought an awesome white stud and it looks gorgeous.
So to leave my advice to those who are looking to getting your monroe done, go for it. It is such a beautiful piercing and it shows your individuality. If you have those who disapprove with it, who cares? Do what ever you want to do.
PEACE && LOVE.
