I went into island ink, knowing I wanted to get my monroe pierced (upper lip), I was so nervous. I had brought a friend with me, and I'm still pretty sketchy about whether or not I want it done or not. I talk to this guy Brad and he says that I need to come back tomorrow. The thing is, when I think I am going to do something, I have to do it. Waiting till the next day meant I probably wasn't going to do it. All night I toyed with the idea, as most people who are getting some sort of alteration to their body. I had even resorted to drawing with eye liner where on my face I thought it would look good and asking friends if they liked it. I got a lot of mixed answers. Well the next day I got off work and decided to go for it. So I walk in and he says he has time, to tell you the truth all I could think about was the pain of when you bite your tounge, and how much this was going to hurt.

So I wait for what seems like eternity. There's this huge guy getting the King of Hawaii tattooed down his back. His right arm has a cast on it and he is ripped and covered in tattoos. I'm thinking oh I can't wait to get my tattoo. As I'm watching this guy get his tattoo, we start talking and turns out he fights in the UFC! I had no idea what he looked like because I had never seen him fight! I had heard about him, but as were talking come to find out he broke his wrist in a fight and all kinds of crazyness but now he was training but he could only do so much because of his wrist. I met the only guy from Hawaii to fight in the UFC! Well bye now the tattoo artist has begun on his back and this guy, who's fighting in the UFC, covered in tattoos, BIG guy is wincing in pain! Oh great I thought!!!

Well, Brad finally comes on out to find me sitting there talking with this guy who's wincing in pain. He looks over at me and goes, your lip's gonna hurt worse than that, and continues on his buisness. So there I am left sitting alone, watching this guy getting attacked by needles, wincing in pain, only to know that in moments, my lip was going to get a huge hole through it!

Brad leans over and asked, "Are you nervous?" I replied, "Yeah, I'm scared its going to hurt pretty bad." He replies in all sincerity, "Yeah its going hurt, no one has ever walked out not crying." I thought oh that's great, I had done fine on all my other piercings. So I walk in and lie down, we're going through all the little procedures, of course now I'm completely nervous. So we're talking and we get interupted by someone who starts talkng to him about his dogs or something, I don't know but now all I feel like he's doing is prolonging this piercing, hehe. Which is making me not want to get this even more. So basically if I was aprehensive in the begining, imagine how I feel like now. So just as he is about to stick the needle in (14 gauge at that) he says, "Oh bye the way, you'll just feel a pinch, hehe." I couldn't believe it, I had sat in all the tension all for nothing! He was like yeah its no big deal, great!!! I figured out, if I can handle a huge needle going through my face I could probably wing a tattoo. Brad thought it was so funny, I was so relieved.

So as I'm lying there, he tells me to relax, breathing is the key and to not open my eyes. "Not open my eyes!" What was going on, are you kidding me? Well He tells me to breathe in goes the needle, and I can feel something close to my eye. Yeah there's a good reason that the piercer tells you not to open your eye. Its because if you do right n front of your eye, like a quarter of an inch is the needle sticking out of your lip and about to stab you if you sneezed! The worst thing is, when you're getting your lip pierced and the piercer is making you laugh and keeps telling you not to move, it can be quite a little trial! Anyways, long story in short I came out with something metal hanging off my lip, hehe. Its great.

Point of story, always be nice to the man with the needle, and piercings aren't that bad once you get over the whole stabbing thing, hehe. Also Brad is finishing up drawing out my tattoo right now. Stay tuned for more fun in the world of Jasmine!!
