I have been wanting to get my lips pierced for a while now. I have my septum, nipples, lobes, PA, and an Ampallang so far. But I just didn't want regular lip rings and the such. I was looking on here, and found the vertical labrets. I had my labret pierced about a year or so ago, and I really liked it. I took it out, cause of complications. But the idea of the vertical labrets intrigued me. So I thought about it for a few more days and decided lets do it. I don't know anyone around me that has them done. So something somewhat unique.

On Saturday I got a hold of a few friends and told them of my plan and they were all but happy to see me get pierced. We hopped in my car and drove downtown to New Tribe. I walked up to the building and before I went in, I had a smoke with my friends and the piercer that did my lobes (Darrel). He wasn't working yet, and was pissed that he wouldn't be doing the piercings for me. So after my smoke, we walked upstairs and I told the counter staff what I wanted done. They told me that Amber would be doing my piercings and she would be a few minutes. She was just finishing up with a client. I never have been pierced by her before, but I love New Tribe for piercings, so I was ok with it. Nervous of course, but like the feeling.

So I sat in the chairs waiting, while my friends played some pool. Neither were very good that day. I watched as a few people walked in and asked some questions and left. I went through the cycle of waiting (excited, nervousness, anticipation, and then GET ER DONE!)

Then Amber walked out and called my name. I stood up and followed her into her room at the back of the studio. My friend Ashley came inside with me and took a few pictures. Amber went over all the sterilization that they do, and then started the marking. She was very thorough. It actually surprised me at how thorough she was at the marking. Very symmetrical both vertically and horizontally. When I was happy with the markings, she went and told me to lay back in the chair. Which I did. *ooooh the pain starts now*

She took the clamp and pierced the right side of my lip first. It pinched, but nothing major. Then the jewellery went in, and ta da. One side complete.

She then took the clamp and clamped the left side. I breathed in and on the exhale she pierced me, but i guess i exhaled a little too much, and blew the needle right out of my lip. I didn't know what happened. Amber grabbed the jewellery and shoved it in my lip right away. Done, but damn did that hurt. She then asked if I knew what had just happened. I didn't' and she preceded to tell me. I laughed, and she said she never seen that before. I guess there's a first time for everything.

After that little ordeal, I took a few mins to relax. I just sat in the chair trying to sip some ice water. When the little cup was done, I got up and tipped her. I also looked in the mirror. Freaking awesome looking. But my lips started to swell almost right away.

Went home that night and did my sea salt soak, and woke up the next day with black/blue lips. So Goth :P Did the usual sea salt soak in the morning, and grabbed a shower. It was hard to drink or eat anything with the new metal in my lips. But I managed to eat something.

I was really worried about how people at work would react, and the folks, even though I don't live with them. I do work for the same company as my dad. But nothing was said to me at work. Just the usual questions....did that hurt? why? And I always politely answer with the truth. My dad didn't say a word about them to me. Just ignore it and it will go away, I guess. :P

But now, almost 3 days later, the swelling has gone down dramatically and the bruising is going away. I still am very careful with what I eat and how I sleep. I can't wait till they are all healed up, so I can go back and show Amber how they turned out. She is going to be taking a picture of them. I guess they don't do many of them in that shop.

I plan on getting my labret re-pierced very soon. It will complete the face for me. :P But I guess...never say never.
