When It just happened
Hello. I am from Costa Rica; a little country in Central America with a little, but strong body modification community that is growing rapidly.

I am technically new to body modification itself with only a few hidden modifications, but I have learned a lot through reading every single thing I have access to at BME, though. I love the subject and the people that surround me often think that I have a weird obsession with piercings and tattoos. My family is surprisingly supportive and luckily, I act in an environment that allows me to do whatever I want with my body.

Until now, I have only dermal-punched my conches at 0ga. Ever since I last got pierced, I have had a little itch everyday that tells me to get something else done, that anxiety is fed every time I check a cool picture of somebody at modblog or I see someone in the street with a nice piercing.

I gathered a little list of the piercings I like the most (strangely, the piercings that I like the most, are the ones people find ugly or gross ) and the first one in the list was the medusa. I think it is a great piercing because in my opinion, it adds a little extra sense of symmetry to the face of the person.

I chose to get this one done first because of the relatively easy place to pierce and clean. It was also a big relief to know that it wouldn't get in the way of my physical activities. I say this because during the healing of the dermal-punches, it was a pain in the ass to have a long, uninterrupted sleep. Another reason why I chose the medusa, is that I wanted to get a facial piercing that could be seen easily but was not too flashy, only to express appropriately my appreciation for body modification.

As for the act of piercing, there was a little problem. My favorite performer was out of the country. When I called the studio the first time, his apprentice told me that he would be here in a month. I waited, and a month after that I called again, and again the apprentice told me he decided to stay there an extra month. I was disappointed I had to wait that long and thought it would be a good idea to go ahead and look for other studios. Shortly after that, I met a very nice girl who was heavily modified, and she helped me in my researching. Even though, I had studied several possibilities I came to no conclusions and buried the subject.

A couple of days ago, I had a change in my schedule that gave me enough time in the mornings to personally go and talk to some piercers and different studios. The first two days I couldn't travel all the way to the town where most of the studios were located (there is a particular block that is full with piercing and tattoo studios ).

Today I woke up, and took the trip. I visited a couple of popular piercing places but both of them were closed that day ( no idea why yet ). I visited a third studio and the piercer didn't have a single piercing done in him and to me, that is like a guitar salesman that doesn't know how to play; I left. When I went inside the fourth studio, I was warmly welcomed in and introduced to the piercer, who looked like a really experienced practitioner. I consulted him and he showed me gladly the sterilizing equipment and the sealed needles, etc... I was decided to get my medusa there and told him to prepare everything, he put the little labret stud in the ultrasonic thing and I went for ice-cream.

When I came back, we (my dad and I) went inside the piercing room and the piercer sit me in a stool while he prepared all the instruments. I was a little worried because, although the room was pretty well equipPed and clean, it was a little messy ( I suppose I was the very first customer of the day ). When the piercer put his gloves on, he remembered that he forgot something and went to get it, when he came back in, he changed his gloves and I felt relieved. That happened three times. When we were finally ready, he marked me, rubbed the inside of my lip with a pink numbing gel and clamped me. Then came the needle, he calculated the exit point and pushed through. The pain level(which is pretty much the number one reason for reading reviews )was not that bad, but it was not "painless", its just like and uncomfortable pinching for less than a second and then a palpitating feeling from the hole. He inserted the jewelry and that was it.

When I went in front of the mirror to check it out, I noticed it was slightly to the left of the original mark (which was perfect) and knew then that it had gone wrong. I asked my dad and he said that it was in fact a little to the left. I felt disappointed because I loved how it looked but I knew that my compulsion with symmetry would eventually drive me mad. I asked the piercer to take the jewelry out and we said goodbye. We left the shop and they didn't charge us anything. I feel very sorry for the piercer because he was a very nice person and an excellent professional. He followed all the steps but missed by little at the end. I won't go back there, but I plan to pierce my medusa again sometime very soon.

THE END
