I am an 18 year old intersexed person... Basically I am a chick with extremely high levels of testosterone (and therefore a few masculine characteristics) but who cares about gender quibbles.

For my 17th B'day my mum let me get a horizontal lower lip piercing. It's right in the middle and I love it. I think it's called a labret.

The piercer said it might hurt because the lip is a very sensitive place but it didn't hurt at all and healed very fast.

I don't remember the piercer's name but people travelled over 300 km from a big city to this little backwater with the southern hemisphere's highest suicide rate to get pierced by him, because his reputation was so good. He was a registered nurse but quit the piercing/nursing buisness soon after doing my piercing, which is a shame because he was so good at it.

He was professional, considerate and he listened to his customers, and definitely one of the best. He checked the site where he drew the dot with a piece of paper, making sure that it was lined up properly, and he had the shakiest hands, I was a bit worried, but his reputation preceded him so I just had to relax and trust that he knew what he was doing.

That was due to some nerve problem, his twitching hands.

When he actually did put the needle through his hands were perfectly still. It almost felt like a little mosquito bite, the point where it itches and you have to scratch it. Not painful, just an intense tickle, sort of.

I consider it a sexual piercing because playing with it is a very nice sensation, and a turn-on...

Since lips are an erogenous zone, I suppose it is.

For about a week after I had to work this blue gel and saline stuff through the hole, which tasted odd but didn't hurt. It healed without a hitch (for which I am grateful) and really suits me, or so almost everyone says.

He had left the plastic rod through the hole long to accomodate swelling but there was none whatsoever, which left me walking around town with an extra centimetre of plastic hanging out of my lip. Whatever, I was so happy with it.

Sometimes it gets hooked over my lower front teeth and pulled but as lips are very elastic things, that doesn't hurt either. All in all the most fuss-free piercing I have. Healed completely in about a week or so.

I got a small metallic blue cone shaped end, so it looks like a little spike below my lip. Definitely recommendable; I have cartilage and lower ear piercings but this is my favourite for the sensation. Some people have said that getting their lips pierced was an excruciating experience... I was so glad it didn't hurt, especially since I didn't have the numbing stuff.

Most people say that it doesn't work anyway. Thinking about getting tongue, both nipples and 'down-south' piercings next, whenever I have the funds/guts/time, and if I do I'll write in about that too.

By the way this is an awesome site...

Originally I wanted a ring through my lip but fell too hard in love with the single, simple spike look. Venoms would be sweet but probably wouldn't suit my face shape, sadly.

Being a tomboyish almost butch type I like that almost metal-goatee look it gives, although it looks beautiful on feminine women too. I play with it all the time and aesthetically it has helped triangulate my round face. Pulling on it and turning it feels nice, even if it does freak out a few people. The backing is plastic and the piercer said that just about the only problem people ever have with this piercing is chewing the flat little end off while eating, which only means that they need a replacment.

He had over 18 years' experience so he oughta know. I think the metal backings are disallowed due to gum/tooth damage. Kissing definitely benefits, and I don't know anyone with a lip piercing who has gotten any negative reviews about the added stimulation.

Many people insist that it is a huge bonus. I must agree with that, the only thing nicer than being kissed by someone with (hopefully multiple) lip piercing(s) is kissing someone with them yourself. Although the sharp little spike I got is a little pointy, but a little pain is good. Or easily changed to a smooth round piercing.

Some people are convinced that it must be caught in clothes during changing, but that has NEVER happened. People automatically lift their shirts past their noses with some care, it seems, and that automatic action includes lip piercings in its protection zone. So to speak.

All in all I am extremely happy with it and would recommend it to anyone.
