It first started when my friend, Sara, got her lip pierced. I still never thought of getting my own, but it was in my head. Then more of my friends started getting piercings. This got me more interested in it and I learned more about it. That is when I started getting bored with myself, so I decided I wanted a piercing of some kind. Then one day, I was looking at some different types of piercings online when Sara sent me a photo with a message that said, "You should get this." It was a horizontal lip piercing and I had to have it.

I had to take care of some things first; like my parents. I had to ask my parents, because I was not eighteen. So, I was nervous, but I finally got enough courage to ask them. I went to mom and asked. She just rolled her eyes and said, "We'll see." That Christmas, I got my answer. One of my gifts was a wrapped package of lip rings. They were hinting that I was allowed, but I had to wait till the end of school, but that was perfectly fine with me. Then I had to figure out where to get it done. For the longest time, I was planning to get it done at Psycho Tattoo, because they were very fancy and professional. I thought they were going to be a little costly, but it would be worth it, because my piercing was rare and not too many people have done it. My friend Cody, then told me about a place called Tattoo Me. She knew the people there. She said they were professional, clean, and also cheaper. So I decided to go to Tattoo Me.

Finally, summer came around and I was going to get it done. Then I started to think about the pain and the healing process. I was starting to get weary, but nothing was going to stop me now. So it was me, Cody, my little brother, and my mom, on the way to Tattoo Me. It was about a twenty minute drive to the place in Canton. I got there and went inside. It was completely empty except for some guy that Cody knew. So we had to wait about fifteen minutes till Jeremy, the piercer, got back. While my mom was signing all the papers, Jeremy and me talked. Originally it was going to cost forty dollars, but since he has never done this kind of piercing before, he said he would do it for thirty. Then he told it would probably swell quite a bit, and there might be minimum scar tissue. This made me nervous, but I didn't care.

So Jeremy and I went into the back room, and Cody followed us. I sat down on the piercing table with Cody next to me. He put on his gloves and cleaned my lip with Dial soap. We talked for a while and then we got started. He held my lip with a clamp. I thought this would hurt, but It didn't from what I remember. This whole time Cody was asking me if I wanted her to hold my hand. I kept telling her no. Then Jeremy asked me if I was ready and I told him yes. That's when Cody reached over and held my hand, this made me laugh. Then he said," Okay, 1, 2, 3." Each time he said a number I could feel it ripping through a different layer of skin: In, middle, and out. And to my surprise; it didn't hurt! It had actually felt pretty cool. All of my friends with piercings told me it doesn't hurt , but I didn't believe them. A needle going through my lip, that has to hurt, but it didn't. Apparently, it bled a lot because he was cleaning it for awhile. Then he put the barbell in; I paid him; and I was on my merry way. I, Je sse, has a horizontal lip piercing.

The healing process was close to perfect. It barley swelled up at all. It was amazing. I mean, it still has its swore days, but thats it. If you just do a really with not touching it for a couple weeks, and clean it enough, you should do fine.

My piercing means a lot to me for many reasons. First, no one else I know has a piercing like mine. I like that it is rare. Then, I like the way it looks on me, and even the way it feels. Plus, I hate to admit it, but even kind of like the attention. I loved the place and I will probably go back to get more done, but who knows what. I wanted to do something unique, but not too extreme. That's why this piercing is perfect for me. So I suggest if this sounds like you, this piercing would perfect for you as well.
