Ok I'll start out with my piercing history. It is very brief and filled with stupidity. I pierced my labret two times. I pierced them with a 22g stud. I also gauged them out to a 14g. They lasted ehhh maybe 2 weeks. I took them out on the account a sever ass kicking wouldn't be fun.

There are two piercing and tattoo shops in my area. Shop A is owned and operated by my aunt's friend. A very nice lady but her piercing and not nearly as good as good as others I've seen. Shop B has one piercer (the owner), he was very rude all the times I've meet him. I think that is why I was soo put off by shop.

In order to get a good shop I would have to leave my town, which was ok but with gas prices not so good.

How I came about discovering the vertical labret was the site. I was doing research to convince my father that this won't ruin my teeth. I show my dads friends and they loved it! I was completely surprised. Epically when they offered to pay for it for my 15th birthday. Another plus about this piercing is I've only see other person in my town with is. He was a tourists though so he doesn't count. He finally gave in. My mother on the other hand (has no legal say) would be very up set. When I asked about it she said she'll take me to get a nose and an eyebrow in instead of one lip ring. Needless to say the next time she seen me she sent me home ( I only see her once a week) because I disgusted her. Very odd considering her sister has 19 visible piercing.

I didn't research a shop at all. I really wish I had though. I when to a shop about an hour away. The 1st red flag should have gone up when she didn't ask for any id. She took me in to the room and had me rinse with Listerine for a while then spit it out. She told me to side straight and look ahead, while she clamped my lip. She didn't mark it or any thing. I was soo nerves and happy just to get it done I didn't say a word.

She shoved the needle in! No pain at all. She when over the aftercare and told me that I would NOT SWELL!! Yeah she lied, for about two days it wasn't swelled at all. Then I woke up with a giant lip!! That lasted about a week and a half. My lip was soo chapped I wanted to cry! It was purple and I couldn't eat it was soo big! I had to learn how to eat and drink all over again.

With my swollen lip and all I had to got to school. I have had a couple bad experiences with my lip and teachers. I have been kicked out of class for up to a month over my lip ring. I was even kicked out of school for 2 day because of it. I am not the only one in my school with a piercing. One teacher had a conference with my father just to complain about my piercing!

Once the swelling went down it looked crooked. I knew that was going to bother me every time I look at it. And it does EVERYDAY!

I needed a shorter barbell (16g curved barbell), so I went to Shop B. I walked in and started talking to one of the guys (a tattoo artist), when the owner came in he said and I quote "Is it suppose to go threw the top of your lip or did they mess up' I said they messed up. The tattoo artist I was talking to said it was a vertical labret. He also said it was called a fairy kiss and another name I can't remember. I never heard that one before but he knows more then me. I got my jewelry and left. I started to hang out with that tattoo artist and hung out in the shop more. The owner had a change of heart and was nice. We talked and became buddies. He offered to re do my crooked vertical labret for half price!! Right now I have an appointment with my new buddy on June 2. I think it is going to hurt a lot more because it is going threw scar tissue.

One thing I LOVE about my piercing even though it is crooked is the attention. I get a lot of "Doesn't that hurt", "Why did you do that?" and "How do you kiss".

In the future I plan on getting a nose and tongue piercing.

Happy Piercing!
