Alright, so I had been wanting my lip pierced for about a year, really bad. I had what side I wanted it on planned out, and I couldn't wait. The only thing holding me back was my moms permission, or so I thought. I had begged my mom and she continued saying no. After months of begging her she FINALLY decided that she would take me, so in July, we went to get it done. I was scared while we were driving, my mom kept saying "I'll give you money instead, don't do this" and stuff like that or even saying "wouldn't you want a stud in your nose instead?" sorry mom, but no. I've wanted this particular piercing for such a long time and I wasn't about to change my mind now. When we got to the piercing place I walked in with courage and I was extremely anxious. We started to talk to the guy about it and then out of nowhere he said "how old is she?" we replied saying "14" and he immediately said "you have to be 16 with a parent, 18 without" whoa, wait a minute, I cant get my lip pierced till I'm 16? Ugh. We went home, me EXTREMELY mad, and my mom relieved. I didn't want to wait 2 years, but I shut up about it for a couple months. Sooner or later I started asking my mom again, and we finally found a place that would pierce at 14 by December.

The day of my piercing came, I was bringing a friend, my mom would be there, and she insisted that her boyfriend come to keep her calm, so whatever, I just wanted my piercing. We walked into the shop and I immediately looked around making sure it was clean. A man doing a tattoo I believe asked us what he could help us with, we told him and he called out for a different man. A man came out with numerous piercing and tattoos came out, he asked what he was going to do today, and we told him everything and got everything worked out with what he was going to do. Then he gave us paperwork to fill out and told us he'd come back to us in a bit. I filled out my papers, and my mom filled out hers, and by this point I was shaking and nervous to an extreme. All the paperwork was done and he then asked me to come back with him.
I followed, and we ended up in a room type thing in the back, he told me to sit in the chair, so I did. He put on gloves and then made sure it was the left side I wanted with a ring, I said yes. He then took a ring, minus the ball and set in on my lip and told me to look in the mirror and see if that's where I wanted it, I liked it and really wanted it over with so said yes. Then he cleaned up my lip, inside and out and made the marking of where he would pierce. My friend was watching the whole thing and that made me even more nervous, But I tried to not pay attention. He took the clamp and put it on my lip. He told me not to tense up and that it wasn't going to hurt, so I sat there hoping and waiting. Before I knew it, the needle was through my lip, simple and painless, I only felt a teeny bit of pressure but not anything bad at all. He then cleaned the ring again and went to put it in. His hands were big, so when he was screwing the ball it pinched my lip a bit, that's all that actually hurt, and it was nothing at all. He then made me look in the mirror and it looked so good.
Next he went over all the aftercare numerous times. He made sure that I knew exactly what to do. He made me repeat the cleaning process and gave me some mouthwash to use. He then had me sign his wall. Because I guess he has everyone that gets a piercing sign it. He made sure again that I knew how to properly care for it. Also, he made sure that I clearly knew that I should call him if I had ANY questions, he actually said something like "it may seem like I don't care but I do." He told me to come back in 2 weeks and he would make sure everything's okay with it.
I went back to him like he said, and everything was fine. I've been back a couple other times, one in which to change out the jewelry, and that was painless too It's been months since I've gotten in and I still like it so much.. So if you're thinking about getting your lip pierced, you should go for it. Though everyone's pain tolerance is difference its worth it. If you do decide to go through with it make sure you clean it properly, though it may seem like it's a huge hassle at first, keep to cleaning it because in the long run its completely worth it.
