I had always wanted my labret pierced, as long as I could remember. Well in fact I have always had a fascination with piercings. Having strict parents although prevented a lot of my wants to come true. They would not even let my get my ear lobes pierced! My mom's father, being born in 1891, was very old fashioned and against all piercings, so she felt the need to honor him. They told me that when I was 16 I could get them pierced. So a year ago I finally went with them to get my cartilage on my right ear pierced. After that, about a month later I found myself piercing my own cartilage right below it. Then again on the other side twice. My parents were not too happy. I now had four piercings, which they hated. Then I got my ear lobes pierced, and second holes about two months after. I now have the first holes stretched to a 6, and the second ones to a 12. But I wanted to add another piercing, my labret.
At A Glance Author anonymous When N/A One day at school, my best friend said she wanted to show me something. It was a piercing kit. She had picked it up from a harm reduction clinic that we always went to by her house. It was complete with cleaning supplies, gloves, needles, etc. So out of impulse I decided she was going to piece my labret. We were sitting in a near by park during lunchtime at school. So we went away from the group of our friends, and I sat against a fence to brace myself. I was a little shaky, but more excited than nervous. I marked where I wanted it and left it in her hands, literally. We did not have clamps or anything so she just yanked out my lip and I started laughing because I drooled on her. I was expecting a lot more pain than what it was. I found that it really did not hurt at all. She got the needle through, and there was a bit of blood, but not a lot. She then got the jewelry in but had trouble getting the backing on. I remember just drooling everywhere, and laughing saying, "Is it in yet? Is it in yet?"
We had to use an earring as jewelry until we were going to get a proper one later that day. It probably would have made a lot more sense to put the backing on the outside of my mouth, but we were not thinking at the time. I also did not want to take it out to switch it around in fear of the hole closing. I went around showing everyone who was blazing or playing frisbee, and their first reactions were, "No way, that is so a magnet, noooo fucking way did you just pierce that right now, no way man." When they saw into the inside of my mouth that it was in fact real, they all told me I was crazy and offered me pot.
I knew there would no point in trying to hide this new piercing from my parents so I went home and showed them right away hoping to get off with being grounded for a month. My mom started freaking out and yelling, telling me to get out and how I did not respect her, and as a result I was kicked out for a week. I was moving around from house to house. So taking proper care of this new piercing was a lot of work. I was not able to get proper jewelry for three days, I had an earring with secured with its backing. This was quite uncomfortable on my gums, so I would have a piece of gauze to prevent rubbing and irritation. It looked swollen and infected with this huge piece of gauze in between my lip and gum, although it was perfectly fine. I really hoped that it would not get infected. But everything worked out for the good, I got proper jewelry after a couple days, and it did not hurt at all any more. Although I was nervous about putting in the 14 gauge, when we had pierced it with a 17gauge. It was not red, and showed no trace of infection what so ever.
My parents finally let me back home after a week, and accepted this new piece of metal on my face. It was all worth it in the end. And I love it. I would love to get more piercings, but I think I will wait a couple more months until I am 18. Then my parents can not say anything. I want to get my tongue, eyebrow, nipples, and navel in no particular order. I would also like to add some tattoos to the collection.
