I had already gone to Lucky's to get my daith pierced almost immediately after I moved to MA for college and was itching to get another piercing for a while. I miss my parlor back at home but the people at Lucky's are also nice and professional and Penelope is great, and always gives you flyers for the newest event going on at her club. I decided on my tongue webbing because I didn't want to deal with my parents who are not so enthusiastic about my quest for body mods and are also paying my tuition. When I got to Lucky's there was a gigantic line and the woman up front said my web was too short, I finally got to talk with the piercer and she said that if I practiced holding my tongue a certain way she could pierce it.

Of course, I didn't feel like leaving without a new piece of metal so I decided to get a scrumper because I also liked the way they looked, figured I could get a barbell to put in it when I needed to hide it, and because the name is so amazing. I love saying scrumper, it sounds delicious, or scrumptious or something. Anyway, I waited around for a while and listened to some girl scream through two nipple piercings before it was my turn to go back. There was another girl waiting to get her nostril pierced and we started talking, she came back to watch me get my scrumper done. That was another awesome aspect of the experience, because I've never gotten a piercing with someone else so it was so cool to have some with me.

We talked for a bit more as the piercer was prepping her tools and then got down to business seeing as there were still a number of people behind me and the shop would be closing soon. One thing I've noticed about the piercing procedure at Lucky's is that the needles are bent to facilitate the piercing. It doesn't change the experience or pain at all, only this has been the only place I've noticed them do that, maybe because she works alone and some piercings are more out of the way. We went over the aftercare procedures and she told me about the temporary nature of scrumper piercings and the usual time it takes before they migrate out. She gave me two pieces of gauze so that my lip wouldn't slip as I held it out. I'm always so psyched to get pierced that I've actually never noticed how any of my piercers warn me that the actual procedure will begin, it seems so quick that between my excitement and anticipation I hardly notice anything going on around me. The actual piercing was more pain then I expected (seeing as I expected none at all) but it was very minimal pain, the worst bit was getting the bead in place because she had to pull the ring forward.

I bled, but I always bleed and it was kind of funny because I was grinning all bloody in the mirror. It felt really odd, like I had braces again. She took a picture and then I was on my way. The lady at the counter told me it looked good and the whole rest of the night I was smiling so wide my cheeks hurt. I love the feeling after I get pierced. I think it must be some kind of chemical experience because this happy feeling always comes on out of nowhere.

I've never had and oral piercing before but this is healing very nicely. I bought mouthwash from the parlor and I use it after I eat, also sea salt soaks twice a day. It doesn't hurt at all and because it's my first unusual piercing I love the reactions I get from people.

*edit* I've had this piercing for a week and I decided to take it out. While I loved the way it looked up close from even a short distance it looked as if I had food in my teeth or something else not very pretty. I noticed this a couple time walking down the hallway and seeing myself in a mirror on the opposite wall. Also, this piercing was a little clumsy for eating, though probably if I had let it heal up completely it would have not been as much as an issue. It is sad for me to retire a piercing so early, especially one that I was so enthusiastic about, but I think in the long run it will be better. I looked at the ring after I had removed it and saw a bunch of plaque built up along the inside rim that I couldn't see when it was in my mouth. I can't imagine how that could have been very healthy to be rubbing up against my teeth all the time. Maybe as more people get this piercing better ways of cleaning it will be found. However, that mouthwash I bought is so good I think I'll keep on using it long after my scrumper is just a little scar under my lip.
