It was about a year ago that I decided that I wanted to get something pierced. I did not know what I wanted to pierce, I did however know that I was set on getting it done and as soon as possible. There were a few problems however. The first problem I encountered was that I knew that my parents would NEVER let me get something pierced....no matter how hard I begged, therefore, I didnt even try. The Second Problem was that I did not know of any piercing places close to where I lived. After giving it some thought, I decided that the only way to get something pierced...was to do it my self!

After that was decided, I then gave some thought to what I would like to pierce. When choosing what to pierce, I thought of pain (how much it would hurt), and also what I would not be to scared to show my parents.I first thought of doing my eye brow, then my tongue, then came the idea of doing my lip. After looking at pictures and reading stories on this site, I decided I would like an off centered vertical labret.

The next step was to round up the objects and neccesities that would be needed for the initial piercing. I went to a store and bought a small bar bell which I was going to put in the piercing. Some of the other things I bought included Listerine Mouth wash, rubbing alcohol, and since I could not think of any thing better...I used a safety pin which I later found out was not to smart.

The next night after everyone was in bed, I set up the piercing area/studio which was in the bathroom. I cleaned the counter top first and put down a clean towl. I then boiled the safety pin and jewelry and soaked them both in rubbing alcohol just to make sure they were extra clean. I then numbed the lip area with ice and cleaned the area which was going to pierced with an alcohol swab. After the lip was numbed and cleaned, I also swished with mouth wash to make sure the inside of my mouth was clean. I then washed my hands and wore rubber gloves. (Why I wore rubber gloves, I am not totally sure, however it seemed cleaner for some reason and I wanted to be as clean and as safe as possible.)

I then slowly started to ease the safety pin through the first couple layers of my lip. I was in fact surprised that I could not feel a thing. After tightly holding my lip while sliding it through, I could start to see it poking through the inside of my lip. That was in fact the hardest part of the whole thing. It did not hurt at all, I could not even feel it however, it was hard to get it through the lip and it was very tight squeeze. After it was all they way through and closed, I took a Aspirin for later pain and went to bed.

When I woke up it was a little swollen, however totally painless. I was also surprised to see that there was NO BLOOD through the whole piercing. I started to wiggle the safety pin around for a while to attempt to make the whole bigger since the barbell was a slight bit larger then the safety pin. (The barbell was small...an 18 gauge but still a little larger then the safety pin.) After a little bit of a struggle, I somehow managed to get the bar bell in and closed. Although the parents were not totally happy with my "project" they were also not totally mad and did not freak out. They did however wish I had gotten it done from an experienced piercer.

Although my experience was in fact really well, and to what I thought, relatively clean and sterol, I would not reccomend someone doing it them selves over getting it done at a licensed studio. If you do in fact take the "doing it your self" route like I did, I do reccomend being AS CLEAN AS POSSIBLE to avoid later problems and infection. Also go to sites like this one and read as much as you can and look at numerous pictures to get some before hand information. The most surprising thing about the piercing was in fact that it was TOTALLY painless. Not ONCE did I ever feel pain throughout the experience!

If any one that reads this story would like to talk about piercings and how I did mine...or just talk about anything and have MSN or Windows messenger, (or hot mail also) go ahead and email me or add me to there messenger contact list with my email!
