Hi there :)
At A Glance Author Zara Contact Zara@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Myself Studio Infront of my mirror... The perfect studio... :S Location North of door? :D As you all may have gathered by the title, this is a DIY experience (by me - of course) about my short-lived Scrumper piercing. (Actually, in fact, it lasted around about two hours... But we'll get to that part soon enough).
I suppose you could say that I started out as most of the experiences on here do, so I won't go into too much detail on it. I basically just well... Fell in love with it after seeing photos of the piercing on the site for around about three months and researching the risks etc. I decided that I wanted it.
I didn't even mention the piercing to my parents, I actually didn't see the point. (Because, by this time I had become quite interested in self-piercing, and after reading every DIY piercing experience on here I decided that it shouldn't be that difficult). I'd do it myself. There, simple pimple. (God, what am I on about?)
I made sure I had all the right equipment first and ordered off BMEshop.com (some where I knew that I could trust). I ordered two 14g piercing needles, one surgical skin marker and a clamp.
I waited till both my parents were out one day and proceeded with cleaning the clamps with hot water and washing down all the surfaces that I would be using with some of my Mum's cleaning bleach. I figured everything needed to be as sterile as I could possibly make it.
I washed out my mouth with a couple of swishes of Listerine and brushed my teeth twice. (Yes, I was getting a bit paranoid by now).
I set out everything on a tray and proceeded to push the needle through. At first I was scared to push it through, I felt weak and as if I was about the faint. I put this down to not eating anything before hand (it was a pretty unplanned piercing). But, I thought to myself "Oh for Goodness sake, Zara! Don't be a wuss! PUSH THE DAMN THING THROUGH!" I finally managed to shove the thing through (this happened twice before I managed to fight the urge to pull it straight out again) and to my surprise - the piercing was 100% perfectly straight! I was gob smacked! Freehand too! (I'd decided not to use the clamps because it was too awkward for me when I was piercing myself).
But, it wasn't all dandy and fine... The piercing was low... Very low... This bothered me a little bit. But, like the idiot that I am, I decided to take the needle out of my mouth (taking some pictures beforehand) and try and get the jewellery in. I was surprised that the whole didn't close up as soon as I'd taken the needle out (even though I did leave it in for around about fifteen minutes) - I'd had major problems trying to get the jewellery (CBR) in without taking the needle out first, this just ended up making the webbing sore really, not nice! - and the CBR slid in smoothly.
I a-d-o-r-e-d it! It was awesome! I feel in love with the piercing all over again, it looked so damn good!
But... I then realised that after my struggles with the captive bead (ball) - and losing it down the side of my dresser - the piercing had to be taken out. Not because I'd lost the ball... (Well, that was one of the reasons) but like I'd noticed at the beginning - the piercing was very low, and should have been a lot higher. It was bugging me like a @#$^% before I took it out, but I managed to show my Mum first. She wasn't too pleased but didn't really mind. She'd probably expected it of me anyway.
So, that was my experience... Probably not very exciting but it was amazing for me. I do plan to have it re-pierced in a couple of weeks, and I again plan to do it myself.
I know self-piercing is NOT safe and I know that these things are best left to the professionals. But I am not sorry that I did it. I know that may sound a little barmy but in a way - I'm glad that I got the experience from it. You could say that it's made me that little bit more determined to carry on with my love for body modification.
But, I am not saying self-piercing is right. It can cause all sorts of problems - but if you really must do it please, please, please make sure that you are at least 99% confident in what you're doing and that everything it was sterile was you can possibly make it.
And most of all - BE SAFE! BE CAREFUL!
Thanks for reading this; I'm sorry if I've bored you all to death by now. I'll try and send some pictures in as soon as possible.
HAPPY PIERCING EVERYONE! :)
