Finally. I am the proud owner of paired cheek piercings. I was supposed to get these a couple months ago, but because of a jewelry shortage, I was not able to. This was the week! I had the money, just had to make an appointment. Turns out my usual piercer is out of town until December the third. I was going to wait until they got back, but I was not sure if I could get in to be pierced on the day I wanted.

To shorten up a bit, I decided on Sacred Arts. I did not fancy their last piercer whatsoever. Not clean, etc. But I found out the owner is piercing now. Made a call to a friend that received a piercing there not to long ago and quizzed him on the piercer's aftercare instructions, bedside manner, and piercing ability. Everything seemed to be up to standards, so I called to see if they could make me an appointment. He said I could come in tonight. *big smiles*

My friend, Dan, comes with me to the shop. I fill out forms, talk with a guy I know from school, etc etc. Then the piercer, Mike, calls me to the back. A couple of the staff stayed to watch. Normally I like to be in there alone, but I was so happy, I didn't mind in the slightest. Hopped up on the doctor's office type bench, and warned him about my twitching. You know when someone tells you not to do something, you involuntarily do it?. Well I know have to be still during marking, so my body makes my shake. It's annoying, so I always warn my piercers about it.

Takes about 30 minutes to mark my cheeks. It's a hard job, making sure they are the same distance, same height, etc. After some trial and error, the marks are perfect and exactly where I want them. I lay down for the first one, because of my shakiness. Clamps, Needle. No pain. *weird look* I expected it to be more like when I had my medusa done. Hot pain. But no. I could feel it going thru the skin, but it wasn't painful. Pinchy at the least. He puts the labret stud it, with some difficulty because of the angle I am at, and the first one is done. I glance into the mirror behind me. I smiled big. It was perfect, and very cute. Even with a bit of dried blood!

I ask him if it would be easier for me to sit up for the second one. He says its up to me, but I do anyways. If a piercer goes out of his way to make you feel comfortable, I think you should do the same. Common courtesy. I sit up. Clamps. Little difficulty getting the needle through. Slight pain, nothing major. It was interesting how I could feel the needle going thru the layers of skin. Quite the interesting feeling. Puts the jewelry in. Cleans them off. I jump up and look in the mirror. Metal dimples, they are adorable!!! They turned out so much cuter than I thought they would. Totally in love.

I pay and tip him, and talk to some of the staff for a bit before going off to get my freezies. The staff is really nice and easy to talk to. I enjoyed myself. And well, like most of us, when I get on the topic of body mods, I can go on for hours!. My friend called me a body mod geek today, and I found it to be quite the compliment. I love learning anything I can about the subject and enjoy sharing experiences with others. For example, when I was in the piercing room, I was exchanging youth horror stories of what I used to do in high school. Like piercing my hand with a safety pin for fun. We both cringed at the same time.

I am so glad I know better now, and I think its good to look back and laugh at myself. And in turn, I can pass on some helpful advice to the younger crowd I know about the hazards of piercing guns, and things like that. Its surprising how little people know when it comes to popular modifications like piercings. I think because it is so popular nowadays, people should take the time to learn about it, how to care for their mods, and not end up in a shady place just to get that 'oh so cool' navel ring they've been saving up for. If you want to do something, do it right.

To update a little bit. It hurts slightly to smile, but I haven't been able to stop since I got them done. I absoulutely adore the giddiness I feel after I get pierced. Wish I could bottle it up and use it when needed.
