I moved to Ohio in 1998 and did not have any mods at the time expect a few gunned lobe holes and a gunned cartilage piercing.But it seemed like once I moved to Ohio,I got really interested in mods.To date,I have an eyebrow piercing,a nostril piercing,a tongue piercing,and a navel piercing that I am in the process of stretching from a 14g to a 0g.I have kept only 2 of the holes in my ears plus the cartilage piercing and I am in the process of stretching the first hole to a 2g.I also have 2 tattoos.
At A Glance Author Christina Contact Christina@bme.anon When A month ago Artist Kris Studio LaRox Location Akron I had decided awhile ago my next piercing would be the madonna but since I was pregnant at the time,I didn't think I would be able to find a studio willing to do it.So after I delivered my second child(I delivered her at home in the bathtub myself with no help from drugs or other human beings),I decided getting my piercing done was a good way to celebrate all I had done to give birth to my daughter.
Originally I went somewhere other than LaRox to get my piercing done but the guy behind the counter said he could only do navels and nipples-"basic piercings" as he called them but said I could set up an appointment for the next day.I don't know how anyone else is,but when I want a mod done,I have to do it when the mood strikes so I left pissed,thinking because it was Sunday I wouldn't be able to find somewhere else that was open to do it.I had a piercing done at Larox before and we were close to there so my husband suggested we try there.We pulled up and low and behold,they were open!
I went into Larox while my husband stayed outside in the car with our 2 kids and I told the guy behind the counter what I wanted.He said they could do that for me,no problem.I filled out the paperwork and paid him then he gave me my bag of Tech 2000 and sea salt for aftercare.
Kris took me back and had me swish twice with listerine for 30 seconds each time.He then asked me if I knew exactly where I wanted it and I said yes,I had sat at home with an eyeliner pencil drawing on my face to find perfect plcaement.He handed me a felt tip pen and said to draw it wherever I wanted it.Then he cleaned off the spot with iodine and clamped it.He told me to take a deep breath and pierced it.It didn't hurt nearly as much as I was expecting-my nostril was alot worse.He then put the jewelry in,which actually hurt more than the piercing itself.He handed me a mirror to look at it and told me he missed the dot slightly. When I looked at it,the placement was fine but my immediate thought was the ball was WAY too big.It was a standard 14g labret stud and the ball totally overwhelmed my face.I thanked him,tipped him,and left.When I went outside,my husband kept looking at me funny and was in total agreement with me about the ball being way too big. We went to Chi Chi's for dinner,where I broke the rule about no alcohol and kept eating the spicy dip on my chips.It didn't seem to irritate it too much-the only problem I had was the labret stud would get caught on the bottom of my tooth if I opened my mouth up too far.
When we got home,I asked my husband if we had any smaller balls that would fit on a 14g.The only thing we had that was smaller was a small spike he keeps on his chin labret sometimes.I had him change it for me and while it looked better than the big ball,it was not right for a madonna.I slept with the 14g in but when I woke up and looked at it,I knew I wouldn't be happy unless there was something different in it.I had went to Hot Topic weeks before and had purchased a 16 labret stud with sparkly balls that I knew would be perfect for the piercing.My husband had told me the night before to either change it then or wait a few weeks cause if it was already pissed off from the piercing itself,it couldn't really get any more pissed off changing it and he said he knew I wouldn't be happy until it was the stud I wanted.SO I grabbed the small pliers we have,grabbed the shaft of the stud near the skin,got the spike off,and took the 14g out.Immediately I put in the 16g and grabbed it with the pliers to keep it from sinking into the hole(it was bleeding by this time) and attempted to screw the ball on,which ended up taking 5 mins more.When I looked at it,I knew I made the right choice-the ball fit my face much better than the original.My lip was swollen but since the 14g and the 16g were the same length,I wasn't too concerned about it sucking in. I cleaned it off with sea salt and went downstairs to take some advil plus get an ice pack to control the swelling of my lip. For the next few days,I used the ice pack faithfully,took advil often,and basically babied it to compensate for all I had put it through.
It has now been a month and it has given me no problems inspite of all I had put it through in the first 24 hours after having it.I am now deciding what my next mod will be-it is a toss between a daith or a vertical labret although my husband seems to think it would be too much on my face.
I would recommend Kris to do a piercing-he had a very nice,funny manner about him that put you at ease.But unless you like the size of the 14g ball,I would recommend going somewhere that will do it with a 16g.
