Yesterday, I decided on my way to work that I wanted to get a piercing. This girl I work with used to work at DragonFX in the mall and she had told me on numerous occasions that it was a really good place to get both tattoos and piercings. She also told me that if you go for a piercing during your break they will give you a 10% off mall discount, so I thought, why not?

I have had my Labret pierced 3 times before. Twice it got infected, the 3rd time it wore down my gums really bad in only a month, so I had to take it out. It had always been my favorite piercing, and I was really sad to see it go. When I move back home for the summer, I decided I needed a new facial piercing to make up for the Labret and the Nose that I had taken out, so I started looking at BME's photos.

I had never even seen a vertical labret before until then, and I fell in love with it. Its such a simple, pretty piercing, and its a lot like the labret, without the gum problems.

So, I went into work and booked the appointment, and headed there at around 3:25. Went to the desk and the girl who was working had the same piercing I wanted, which was cool because I had only seen photos before. I then picked out the jewelry and filled out all the forms. They even had an aftercare quiz at the end of it, which I thought was a smart idea, but still kind of funny at the same time.

I only waited for maybe a 2-3 minutes when the piercer came and got me. We walked into the small room and I sat down on the table. The one thing that I noticed the most was that it even smelled clean. You could tell they make sure that everything is sterilized properly. This was a comfort since I had never been there before.

The guy seemed nice enough, although I was still a little apprehensive about getting something done by a piercer I had never met before, or who had never done any work on me. All my other piercings had been done by Leslie at Schmatta in Saskatoon. I was used to her, and I trust her work. But, he was very professional and efficient. And I really wasn't nervous at all.

The actual piercing took a few minutes. He lined everything up all nice, disinfected it etc. and when he told me to lie down, I waited for him to put clamps on my lip, but instead when he turned back from the table, he had the needle. I was surprised he didn't use clamps, but it didn't bother me too much. He seemed to know what he was doing. He told me to take a few deep breaths, and just pushed it in. It hurt quite a bit, but only for a few seconds. I think my nose hurt a lot more. But that's just me. Getting the jewelry wasn't a problem either. I'm not sure what length, but I'm pretty sure its a 16 gauge curved barbell with pretty blue jeweled beads.

It was over so quickly, and then I left. It was really weird, but I guess I'm just not used to big piercing places like that. They get you in and get you out nice and fast.

I went back to work, and everything was fine, it hurt a bit to smile and laugh, but I took some Motrin, and after 2 hours, it didn't even hurt at all.

The only problem happened when I went home. I was eating supper and the ball fell right off. I took it into the bathroom and tried to screw it back on, but my hands were a little wet from washing them, and it fell down the sink! I was not about to lose my expensive brand new piercing, so I searched around for my old labret jewelry for a ball that would fit. Unfortunately they were all too big. So I did what I did when my labret ball fell off. I tied a piece of thread around the top of the post so it wouldn't fall off when I was sleeping.

It was a pain in the ass, and the thread probably wasn't necessary, but I was so worried it would come out. I went back there today and got a new ball, and made sure it was on tight this time.

I love my vertical labret! It was really worth it. And I recommend going to Dragon FX if you are in Edmonton. Its VERY clean and has a great atmosphere, its worth paying the extra 20 bucks.
