Dimples you say..... No damn way!!!

What can I say about cheek piercings??... Well I'll try and give you all I know.

It's taken me three years to get the piercing(s). And what I will say is that [in my opinion] they're not ones to have through spontaneity. I think they a pretty 'hardcore' mod.

Primarily you need a good ol' piercer, one whose got the enthusiasm and expertise to do the procedure....in England this has proved a difficulty, many are apprehensive or inexperienced... I've been talked out of it sooo many times... I think it had more to do with their scepticism and anxiety about performing the procedure, than.... Well... ,I don't know..., there seems to be no other reason.

I finally found one when I wasn't looking... he gave me no bullshit " I've pierced six pairs of cheeks... only half have survived"... his honesty was boundless, explaining [in detail] the procedure, anatomy, aftercare... just in case I decided to visit this part of the country again. A 'live' specimen [Neil] was in the next room [his co-worker and tattooist, so of course I went and checked him out... I mean his cheek piercings!!!]. The placement was really good, and they looked perfect. I did find out later that it was his third time... having out his wisdom teeth hadn't helped... |Neil taught me the lesson of patience.

Brian [the piercer] also extended his hospitality by taking me to his part of the studio and 'feeling me up'... 'Fingering' the tissue and muscle inside the cheeks to find the natural breaks, where he could pierce successfully [an uneven 'pierce' can attach two muscles, disallowing successful healing]... anyway an 18mm labret post would be used if I ever decided to go ahead with it... just what I wanted no pressure, just good ol' hospitality and professionalism.

[I might also add his portfolio contained hand webs, deep chest, toe and armpit piercing(s)... if you're English you'll be as shocked as me.. this is rare indeed]

After a month of debating I was convinced so gave a quick call and headed back to middle England.

I've had a 'few' facial piercings in my time... but this was scaring me... it's just the sheer amount of tissue you're faced with... when I was told to sit upright I freaked... what if I faint???... It's safe to say I didn't.. Although my 'observing' twin was quick to take a seat.

The first piercing was painless.... I don't know if I have a high tolerance of pain, or whether my excitement got me through who knows. The second I did 'feel' but nothing compared to some cartilage ear work I've had. Maybe it was because we took a 'time out' between each piercing, who knows?. Brian's adrenaline was rushing you could see it in his eyes. {How nice to see someone who still enjoys the profession, whose keen do the 'unusual' ones... who doesn't treat it like a conveyer belt... sorry I digress].

Anyhow the experience was fantastic!..... Topped off with post piercing tea and 'chit chat' ... who knew they use to work in a shop near me until they went north.

It's safe to say I left a happy girl.

... There's something I must mention... something we mustn't forget...AFTERCARE

I found the ice sucking 'thing' extremely helpful for the first two days, aiding both swelling and discomfort. After, I experimented with camomile tea. [Procedure; add camomile tea bag to boiling water, allow to cool, then place in small container {lipstick lid is a good size} and place over piercing}... undoubtedly this reduced any redness and eased the little discomfort that remained.

The only problems I have experienced were through illness. I got flu after three months and it was like they'd just been pierced again... swollen girl. I just repeated the after care above and as the 'illness' departed so did discomfort.

Oh I will also mention the 'leaking'. The lymph doesn't dry and stays liquid, it's a little unnerving, and you can get self conscious... a handy supply of tissues is needed to wipe it quickly away. [I do get a little now even after 4 months].

Oh well that about wraps it up... I hope I haven't forgotten anything. Yes you get dimples, and no don't even think about changing the jewellery after the swellings gone down; do you know the damage an external thread can do??.....

Anyhow I hope I can provide a little knowledge to those considering the above, I really needed it, and found it hard to find when I was looking.

Oh and I must say a big thank you to Brian at Abody... he's a man who truly extends the art of piercing with a bedside manner to match. If you're ever in Leicester go visit him and you'll be shocked. Say the 'Essex' girl sent you. Thanks –r [IAM;clearvowelsriselikeballoons]
