So one day I went in to get a piercing at my usual shop and I noticed my piercer had removed her labret piercing but had some strange barbell in her lip. It was positioned as a piercing I had never seen before. So I asked her the name of it and she told me it was called a vertical labret. I was in love with it. I knew I HAD to get it.

At this point I was looking for a job so getting the piercing done was out of the question. Luckily for me I found and a job and got hired at Subway. They have no problems with piercings at all and said it was fine if I had it done. Good news for me. So now I had to save up the money for it as I was BROKE since it had been so long since I had a job. My first paycheck came in and it was not enough, but the second one was!
So I called up my father for a ride and he said we could go at 3 that day. So I called up Sinkin' Ink in Hamilton and made the appointment. My dad came over early and then let me drive to Sinkin' Ink. We had a lot of time so we took the long way, avoiding highways.
We got there early, around 2:35pm. They gave me a form to fill out and I did that and then my dad had to sign it too since I am only 17. They took our licenses and made photocopies and then gave them back. I paid my money then while the piercer setup in the back. She came out and told me she was ready and led me to the backroom.
When we got to the back we talked a bit. She asked me if I had been there before because she recognized me, but I told her I had never had a piercing there. I did tell her that I was once in there to buy a black stainless steel barbell and that she had measured it for me. We then started talking about my piercings and where I had done each of them. This was the fourth shop I had been at for a piercing and she laughed saying "You've been everywhere!" We talked for a little while longer while she began to clean up my lip and dry off the area and then make the marks.
First she had me rinse with Listerine which was gross since it was original. We got the dots on and I OK'd them as I thought they were placed well. After that she put the clamps on and then tightened them a bit. It was a little bit painful but nothing unbearable. After that she told me to begin breathing deep. I knew the routine so I started to do that. After a breath or two she pushed the needle through. I'm not going to lie, it was very painful. And when I thought it was done I was wrong. It still had a bit to go which also hurt. As soon as the needle was in the pain was gone and she removed the clamps. Then she opened up two barbells to switch the beads. Each barbell had a small ball and a large ball but she wanted me to have 2 small balls, and I agreed. So she put that in and we were done with it.
She let me sit up and then use a mirror to look at it. Immediately I liked what I saw and was VERY happy with it. I really thought it looked great. I sat back down and we talked again. She told me she was very happy with the results and that I had a perfect lip for it. She said that a lot of people don't have the right lip for it so it turns out as more of a surface piercing, but my lip stuck out perfectly for it. She was so happy with the results that she insisted I come back in a few weeks so she can get a picture. She got me a glass of water and wondered why I was sitting there not drinking it. I told her that I was "trying to figure out HOW to drink it" and as expected I drooled as I drank the cup of water.
She handed me a nice aftercare sheet that was much more detailed than any other sheet I had ever received. It even had nice colourful graphics on it. She went over the aftercare procedures with me and told me things to avoid doing. She also put some Q-Tips into a special envelope that she sealed shut incase I bled on the way home. I thanked her and assured her that I would come back in a few weeks so she could get a picture of it.
It is now one day later and it is doing well. Yesterday it was hard to eat, but there was no pain at all. Today it is fairly swollen but does not hurt me at all. I highly recommend this piercing to anyone who is considering it as it looks awesome. It was painful at the time of the piercing, but it only lasted a few seconds. I look forward to fully healing this piercing as it looks great.
