I never would have guessed that one day I would be the proud owner of a vertical labret, or in other words, a chunk of metal hanging out of my lip. I mean a facial piercing? I was always the piercing fan, but would never get facial holes due to scars and other people's perceptions and what not. I have three in each ear, my navel, both nipples and my tongue done, but a very visible facial piercing? I just was not quite sure just yet. I had been wanting to get a new hole in my body for quite some time, but had not be able to make a decision. One day my guy suggested a piercing, under the lip, but coming up through the lip. He could not really explain it, so I was a bit lost. It sounded really odd to me, so I kind of blew him off.

View, Ca As I do every time I am looking for Body Modification ideas, I came to BME, and this time in the search for the perfect piercing, I found a vertical labret photo. Sweet, simple, one ball resting on the lip, one right below it. I loved it! I absolutely adored it, convinced it would make my lips look very sexy, more pouty and yummy. And I was sure it had some great perks.
That was it, I had made my choice and I was going to do it! Without much hesitation or thought, I called my friend/piercer Nigel Sixx and asked him if he would mind hurting me a little bit. Of course not, go figure. I went down and chose the jewelry. It is a small curved barbell, like they use for eyebrow rings. I washed my hands and face with some dial soap, to be safe and took a seat. He told me that since it had to be perfectly placed, the needle would be kinda slow going through, instead of the quick swift poke for a normal piercing, but being the tough girl that I am, I said "No problem". My pain threshold has gotten pretty high from previous tattoos and peircings, so I knew I'd be fine. Oddly enough, I didn't have the normal butterflies when I climbed up on the table, I was quite calm. Of course this was because I trusted my piercer, which is always a plus. He turned to me, said are you ready? As I said yes, I felt him hold the clamp tighter and then felt a small pinch under my lip, then a pause. I just stared at his eyes, watching him take his time, like a true artist, my face as the canvas. It was halfway done, I was so excited, and I wanted to giggle. Then with one more swift stroke, it was over. But dear lord, when the needle came out the top of my lips, that hurt. I guess the skin on the lips is more sensitive than I bargained for. Not terribly, but noticeably for sure, like someone bit my lip, but twenty times harder than when you do it accidentally. But then it was over, no blood, no pain, no throbbing. I took one look in the mirror and I loved it! I was smiling and giggly. And I'm not even concerned with the fact that its on my face, its dead sexy!
Its only been about a week, and the only thing that isn't great, is as its healing, the top ball wants to rest on my lip, but then the skin keeps trying to heal to the ball, but as long as I keep it clean, it will be fine. All I've done since is ice it and keep it clean. I have done sea salt soaks a few time, I can feel it pulling any kind of infection out, so I know this is going to heal nicely. It hasn't really swollen up, but I have been meticulous about keeping it clean and keeping ice on it. Anti-inflammatory is helping as well, keeping the swelling down a lot. I'm so impressed with how amazing it is. The only downside I have found is that drinking from a cup or a bottle has become very difficult. For the time being, I am carrying straws around to drink things, makes it easier.
I'm thinking that depending on how it heals, I could get a cute little spike for it. Hopefully, I can have it without stabbing myself while talking. Its great to have such a cute adornment, and it does not get in the way of talking or smiling or eating or anything. It's awesome. I had never seen this piercing on anyone, and I am so glad that I got it.
I got my inspiration from this site, now I am able to share the beauty that came from it. So thank you for the inspiration, now for the next masterpiece to adorn my body......
