Pretty much all of my life I have been the perfect little kid. Good grades, do what I'm told, and all that kind of good stuff. Well, my junior year in college I decided to go to Argentina. While I was there for some reason I got it into my head that I really wanted blue hair. Actually I had always thought blue tips looked cool but thought that since I was in Argentina away from all of the people I knew it would be a good time to do it. So, I died my tips blue and they looked so cool. It was the beginning of my new personality.

So, senior year in college, after dying my tips blue 3 or 4 more times sporadically and at times having turquoise hair, I decided it might be cool to get my labret pierced. For spring break for some reason we went to Amarillo, TX. Hey, it was free and that was about all it had to offer. So, one night while bored I brought up to my friends that I had always wanted to get my labret pierced. Two of my friends said they thought it would be really cool. The other two weren't as enthusiastic.

I pretty much told them that if it was less than 40 bucks I would go ahead and do it. We called around and low and behold it was $35. We went over to Screaming Mimi Tattoos in Amarillo and told him I wanted a silver labret stud. The guys there were super nice and friendly and the place was very clean. The piercer said he didn't know if they had a labret stud and I kind of hoped that he didn't so I wouldn't have to do it. He had one and I went in the back.

Only one friend was allowed to come so he came in with me. I rinsed my lip and pretended not to be nervous. I really wasn't that nervous even though it was my first time to get anything done. He marked the spot twice and finally got it centered and then pierced it. No pain at all....really. The pain was more like pressure. I could tell something had been done to me, but it wasn't like I really wanted to scream or anything. It was kind of funny because I always thought that area would hurt a lot since zits always hurt really bad there. Luckily it was a different thing. It was very quick and painless.

The needle was in my lip for a while. He pierced it from the outside in and then had to put the stud in from the inside out. It felt really weird just sitting there. My friend said he wanted to pass out seeing it. I think it was harder for him than on me.

I loved it instantly. It was so cool. Afterwards it never really hurt. Never swelled noticeably and was pretty manageable throughout. Right after we got it done though, we went out for hamburgers. That was a little bit of a challenge. I kind of just tore mine into little bits and stuff and ate it like that. Every time I opened my mouth really wide I got it caught on my lip and it didn't hurt but it sure did freak me out. It also got a little gross on the inside about a month later and stayed like that for a couple of months before it went back to normal. Still I loved it so much.

While we were there my friend got his nipple done. The same guy did it. They were so clean there. He changed gloves several times for both of us and wore a mask. Later my mom asked if I was going to have some diseases or anything like that. Of course moms would ask that kind of questions. I think it is their job. I told her the mall gave diseases. She pretended to believe me at least.

All in all it was one of the most fun things I have ever done in my life. Scratch that, the most fun thing. I am now addicted I think. People said it was going to happen, but I never ever believed them. Here I am now looking to get something else pierced. Oh well.

I would really recommend it to anyone that is thinking about it. My friends were shocked at first but even the more conservative ones eventually came to like it! A couple of them liked it right away. At the very least it was the topic of conversation for a good month.

A few quick tips: Labrets are scary to have when playing volleyball or other sports. I felt like my teeth were in danger all the time during sports. Otherwise it was nothing but good!

Next up for me: I am thinking about getting my ears pierced and stretched to a 6 or 8 gauge. Any advice from anyone on that? Not sure about it though mainly because of work. We will see I guess.
