Ever since I started looking at BME and saw the "monroe", or "madonna" piercing 2 years ago, I knew I was in love. In my opinion, it is the prettiest of all piercings and not as common. I have other body piercings, which include, navel 2x, septum, ½ plugs, and other ear stuff. I knew I had to get a Monroe piecing right away, it would make me more complete and give me more self-confidence.

I couldn't ask my mom right away since I was only 13.(No respectable place would pierce me anyway.) When I turned 14 I started asking, and begging, and making compromises...At this time she was very stubborn about body piercing, so I didn't have much hope. Before school started we made an agreement that if I got all A's until Easter I could get it done...That wasn't soon enough for me. I needed to get it on my Birthday (October 23rd). I begged some more, and some more...She said no and told me to stop bothering her. I wasn't about to give up that easily. Finally she gave in and said, "I don't care but your dad is part of this too. If your dad says you can have it then I'll take you to get it done. I'll talk to him about it. Don't worry I'll talk him into it" Later that night my dad told me to come and talk to him, I did. He said "Your mom and I have decided that you can get your piercing, I guess you could be worse." That had to be one of the happiest moments of my life! He even offered to pay, but I wanted to pay for it myself so it would be completely mine.

I didn't go do it right away. I waited about a week to actually go in to get it done. November 1st was the day I had planned on being pierced. I was excited all day at school, I thought it would never end. I went home and ate since I wasn't sure if I would be able to or not after my piercing. At about 5:00 on Thursday, November 1st I went in and asked for a monroe piercing. The piercer, Dan, asked how old I was...15. He said that he didn't pierce anyone under that, which was good to know because a lot of younger people (I know I'm young too) don't know how to take care of piercings. At first I didn't think he liked me. I listened to him tell me all about the aftercare, dangers, ect..and he made sure my mom was still into letting me get this done. I think he started liking me after he realized I wasn't just some little girl getting pierced to be cool.

I went to one of the back rooms to get pierced. He made me very comfortable by making jokes and stuff. I brought my sister back with me, which now, I realize I didn't even need her there. There was nothing to be scared of. He made me open and close my mouth so that he could find the best placement to keep the flatback from irritating my gums and teeth. The first mark he made was a good one, so I stuck with it. He put the clamp on me. That felt a little weird but not bad. I was expecting the actually piercing to hurt a lot.. "deep breath in, and slowly breath out!" This didn't hurt at all! There was a little bit of pressure, and my eyes watered some (I don't know why). He said, "Now when I insert the jewelry there might be a little bit of a pinching feeling." There was, but it was not a bad feeling at all. I was so happy! He asked if I had any questions...nope. He told me to come back in about 2 weeks to get a shorter labret stud put in (he put a longer one in because there w as suppose to be some swelling). The actually piercing cost $40, plus I made a $10 tip. Right after that my mom took me to the store to get some IB profin like I was told to do. It would help out if any swelling occurred.

It's been 2 weeks and 2 days since I've been pierced. There has been no swelling, and only a few crusties. I'm very impressed. I get many compliments on it, but there are also a lot of close-minded people at school that make fun of it, which suits me just fine. At least I know it won't become all trendy like navel piercings :) I haven't had time to get the labret stud changed, but I plan on going back in a few days. The weird thing is, my mom as actually admitted that it looks good on me! Now I'm working on trying to talk my parents into letting me get another piercing in the near future (center lip). If you're ever in the Peoria area I definitely recommend going to Mojo's Studios on Adams Street.
