Living in Hawaii with a face full of metal is pretty amusing, especially on the island of Maui where the most common piercing people have are typical nose studs and belly button rings. You can only imagine the stares and questions I get because of my appearance. Already having triple lip rings and a septum, I decided to get my bridge done. I am a huge fan of symmetry and like things to look and feel balanced so I thought it would compliment my face very well, not to mention I adored the piercing on other people. I asked around our little rock and could not find anyone who was willing to go along with my decision. They had excuses such as not having the proper jewelry or just not being able to do it which was fine. I admired them for their honesty and would rather not have them lie and end up piercing me. I have seen the horrors of crooked and shallow bridges and I was so careful as to not let that happen to me. I needed somebody extra special and was not planning on just waltzing in to any tattoo parlor and getting it done. I asked around the Internet and found out that on the island of Oahu, there's this guy named Jim at Paragon that does great surface work and other unusual piercings. My best friend Hauoli and I were going to vacation there so we decided it was a perfect opportunity to finally get the piercing I was craving for such a long time. It was definitely meant to be!
At A Glance Author Tiana Contact Tiana@bme.anon When Six months ago Artist Jim Studio Paragon Piercing Location Honolulu, Hawaii Before leaving, I told my mom what I was getting done. Being 18, she couldn't stop me but I just wanted to let her know that I was coming home with another hole in my face. She likes my other piercings very much but was skeptical about this one. She told me that she wasn't sure if she was going to care for it because she thought it looked ugly. She also thought that it would not go well with my features at all. Concerns about my sinuses and the chances of me being cross eyed came up too which was fairly common for someone who does not know much about this particular piercing, however I assured her that none of those things were going to happen. But she did wish me luck and told me to have fun on my trip despite her uneasiness towards my decision.
Upon arrival, I was squirmy with excitement. I asked the receptionist for Jim and he wasn't there yet so we just looked around at the jewelry and the environment to make sure it was a decent place. Like my mom, Hauoli was a bit unsure on the idea and I told her that I was sure this was going to come out all right. Then Jim came in and we talked for a bit, signed the papers, and decided on a 14 gauge. Then he told us to come in the back and the moment I saw the doctor's examination bench, I smiled brightly. I happily laid down like he told me to do and informed me it was going to be a bit weird when I open my eyes. I opened them and found him right above me and nearly on top of me with a mask and gloves in a peek-a-boo sort of way. Hauoli and I giggled because we thought this must have looked so awkward. He marked the spot and I examined the markings in the mirror for a while, making sure that I would be satisfied with it.
The whole process went by so incredibly quick. Out of all of my piercings, this one went by so smoothly. He told me to take a deep breath, clamped it, and soon enough it was done. It felt like nothing happened at all until I opened my eyes and could see the metal balls. Hoping to see some blood, I was let down because there was only a small droplet. I ran to the mirror to look and I instantly fell in love. It couldn't be any more perfect and Hauoli loved it too and it's always nice when a best friend agrees with you about a new piercing. She ended up having him stretch her ears a bit and came out with 2 gauges that she was very happy with. Jim is so wonderful and truly a smart guy who knows what he's doing with a very down to earth personality that makes his customers comfortable. I'm glad I went to him to get my bridge done because it's my absolute favorite! When I came home, my mom ended up liking it which made me feel nice. It also healed well too and I had no problems with it at all.
If anyone is considering getting their bridge done, then by all means go for it! I just think you should find a piercer that you are going to have a lot of confidence in.
