Last night was definitely interesting. (March 9, 2005)

I have been an admirer of piercings for many years, but have been hesitant to get any myself. It is mostly piercings of the nose, lips and brows that I love, not really the tongue (ugh). I think that they are very elegant and sexy, and can accent most people's faces very well. However, I have been with almost all my friends when they got their tongues pierced at this same Shop, so off hand...I kinda know how it feels, I just don't care for that type of piercing. Anyways, I have been wanting an eyebrow ring for about 2 years now, they're not as common as tongue rings around here but still pretty popular. However, I put off getting one because they have been so popular...I've wanted one because it was going to be an expression of myself, not following some trendy fad. I have noticed piercing and tattoo fads among girls and it really disgusts me. I wanted to get my eyebrow done last semester, but after seeing my roommate and one of my suite mates get theirs pierced because it "looked so cool" just really turned me off. They mainly did it because the other girl's roommate (my suite mate now) has one, and they wanted to copy her. Things like that are just lame, and Im sure that there are others out there who would agree with me.

Anyways, last night an old friend of mine who went to college with me came down to visit, and she decided to go and get her tongue re pierced. All the piercer had to do was shove the gauge through the small membrane that had healed over. It hurt her alot though, said it hurt almost as much as when she first got it pierced. I tried not to look at first but its like a train wreck, you just can't look away. After she was done, I mentioned wanting to get my brow pierced and she said that if I really wanted it, she would pay $15 of my $35 bill. How could I turn that down? Plus it would also be a memorable event for both of us, since we won't have a chance to see again for a while.

I was extremely nervous, but I was mostly just high from excitement that "I was actually gonna do it!!". Of course I had to call my boyfriend first to see what he thought about it. He didn't really say much or sound enthusiastic because it was such a surprise. I asked him to come down to the shop to watch and hold my hand, but he said that he didn't think he could handle it. I understood, some people just can't watch things like this. I on the other hand, have the stomach for it.

It was a really quick procedure, and I trusted the piercer since he had been the one to pierce most of my friends before as well. I think the most uncomfortable part was the stupid clamp (yeah I know, thats what everyone says but its true!). I cant say that the needle didn't hurt. It hurt like hell for a few seconds, but I have this automatic reaction to pain by laughing so I was laughing my ASS off as soon as he pierced through the skin. For a moment Lauren thought I was going to cry (but im not THAT much of a wimp). I admit, it was an extremely odd sensation to feel the needle going through the skin and I felt like I couldn't catch my breath after the penetration.

Luckily though, before I knew it, the needle was in and the procedure was done. It felt really strange at first, I wanted to touch it and pick at it but I knew better than that. I guess you can get that feeling when you just have a foreign object inserted into your skin. Afterwards for a while I just felt great, a nice little adrenaline high. Overall it was actually fun and exciting, Im thinking and considering getting more piercings done in the future. This experience has help me to overcome my fear of piercings, and now I look oh-so-cute with my brow ring. My boyfriend likes it, it was funny to see the look on his face when I showed him last night.

However it is annoying to see the little ball in my peripheral vision. I keep wanting to follow it with my eye and end up leaning or falling over sideways (true story). Soon I should be completely used it it, in 4 weeks if I bring my care instructions page back to Tattoo Body Works, they will give me a free ring which is very very cool of them. Not alot of my friends have seen my piercing yet. Some will like it, and Im sure some wont. But of course all that matters is that I like it, and I love it.

Now I just have to tell my mother about it~
