I never was really too fond of eyebrow piercings. I never thought one would look right on my face, so I said that I'd never get one. Then again, that was back in the day when I thought stretched lobes were icky too. And now I have beautiful 0g lobes, with plans to stretch larger. The idea to get my eyebrow pierced came to me one day when I decided I needed to get a piercing on the right side of my face. I'm all about symmetry, and since I have my left nostril pierced, I didn't feel even. Since I play trumpet, I didn't think a lip piercing seemed feasible to get done. So next thing that came to mind was eyebrow. After tossing the idea around in my mind for a few days I decided what the heck, why not. Well, being that I am only the young age of sweet sixteen, I had to discuss it with my parents so they would sign for me. I already had my nose, industrial, rook, helix and lobes stretched, so they are pretty open to mods. After discussing it for about a week, my parents said as long as I paid for it, they would take me when they had time. So it was settled, I was going to get my eyebrow pierced!

One day my mom was going to get her hair cut at a place that is relatively close to my piercing studio, so I asked my dad if he would want to drop my mom off to get her hair cut and we could go over to Steel Addictions and I could get my eyebrow pierced. He agreed, which wasn't too surprising since I knew my dad hates waiting around for my mom to get her hair done. Since I had gotten my grade card that day and had earned all A's and B's my mom said she and my dad would even pay for the piercing. What's better than that? I can't think of anything.

Flash forward about an hour. After dropping my mom off and making our way through traffic, my dad and I pulled into the parking lot of Steel Addictions. At this point I had gotten a few butterflies in my stomach, but mainly since I was excited rather than nervous. I'd been through this plenty of times before so I knew pretty much what to expect. Upon entering the shop the guy working at the counter said hello and asked what I wanted done. The price to get your eyebrow pierced was $35 dollars, which I was glad my dad was paying for, which meant I could buy a new screw for my nose. After paying, the counter guy went over the basic aftercare and all that jazz and gave me a little bag of sea salt to do soaks with. Then I was handed a clipboard with some paper work for my dad and I to fill out and sign. After that was taken care of I was told it would be a couple minutes for the piercer to get the tools and such organized. I swear those are always the longest "couple of minutes".

But finally I got called back. My dad decided to come back and watch the procedure since he is pretty interested in piercings and such. When in the separate piercing room, Dorian went over after care in more depth and discussed placement and jewelry. I remember reading somewhere that the best-looking placement for an eyebrow piercing was angled in towards a labret piercing would be. I had Dorian mark that place, and it looked good to me, so that's what I decided to go with. Then we talked about the pros and cons of rings and barbells. I decided to go with a curved barbell, since I am pretty careless when it comes to rings and my hairbrush. Ever since getting the comb caught on the ring I had in my rook, I tried to steer clear of rings if at all possible.

Dorian explained that he was going to put the clamps on my eyebrow and that it would probably be the most annoying part of the whole procedure. He was pretty much right. They didn't hurt, but they just felt awkward. After the clamps were in place he explained he would count to three and on three I should exhale and he would push the needle through. Since he had done all my piercings, I was familiar with this, so that was fine. He counted to three and I exhaled just like I was supposed to. It's pretty hard to explain the feeling of the piercing. It didn't exactly hurt. It felt like a quick pinch with a rush of heat afterwards. I didn't really notice the change from the needle to the barbell. The piercing process was quick and relatively painless. After getting the jewelry in, my eyebrow decided it wanted to bleed. It stopped after a few minutes. Dorian said if I had any questions that I shouldn't hesitate to call or stop by the shop. I thanked him and went on my way over to the mall to pick my mom up. On the way out, my dad commented how cool it looked having the needle through my eyebrow. That's my crazy dad for you.

I've had it pierced for almost four months now I haven't had any major problems. For the first two weeks or so my eyebrow was bruised, but I bruise very easily, so it might not occur with everyone. It's pretty much healed up now. No crusties anymore, no pain or redness or signs of rejection. Only once have I gotten it caught while taking off a hoodie, and I quickly learned my lesson of being careless like that. It's a pretty easy piercing to take care of. I've recently cut down to soaking it with sea salt every other day just to keep it clean and happy. During the initial healing process I washed it daily with diluted Provon Soap and soaked once and day in sea salt. The easiest way to do sea salt soaks is to make up a cup of the solution and take a cotton ball and hold it over the piercing until it cools off, for about 10 minutes. It worked perfect for my piercing.

If you're thinking about getting your eyebrow pierced, I highly recommend it. It's an easy piercing to take care of and the piercing process is relatively quick and painless. And plus, it's a beautiful piercing.
