I had retired my bridge piercing a few years ago because it had started to migrate, because of where I was working my second job, I was constantly changing the jewelry in it and that lead to it starting to heal itself out, so out of necessity I had to remove it. At the time that I had it done, there were very few if any people in my area that had the bridge piercing let alone knew what it even was, and as with all of my mods, it is the ones that are not as common that I tend to go for. Don't get me wrong, I do have all the common ones, but the bridge was special, it was different and no one, i mean no one had one around where i am. But enough of that, on to the story.....
At A Glance Author godlike Contact godlike@bme.anon When Three months ago Artist me Studio Bodyco Location Orillia, ON So one sunny Wednesday afternoon, we were sitting around the shop (that is BODYCO, located downtown Orillia, ON....had to get my plug in there...) and I had mentioned to Ryan (our tattoo artist and secondary piercer) how I was considering redoing my bridge because I missed it so much. He immediately jumped up with and excited "CAN I DO IT????" He had never done one or even seen one, but I figured that I could talk him through it and all would be good. So I agreed and that was that.
We went through the marking procedure, made sure all was straight and good, and into the chair I sat. We all pierce free hand here, only rarely using clamps, and I mentioned to Ryan how he may want to use clamps on this one as the skin tends to roll quite a bit and it can be tricky to get centered and straight. He felt otherwise, and I gave the go ahead. The piercing itself was nothing, a slight pinch, a little tug and that was that. I got cleaned up, stood up and took a look at it. Yes, it was straight, yes it was centered, BUT....it was very shallow. I knew that within a small period of time, it would begin to migrate, so out it came.
So, here is where I come in....about 3 weeks later, I really wanted it redone. Ryan was busy tattooing and I figured to hell with it, if you want something done right, do it yourself....
I yelled out to Ryan, "Hey man, I am repiercing my bridge", to which he replied, "You're nuts." Well those weren't his exact words, but you get the idea.
I went and washed up, set up my tray, went over to the piercing station and stood in front of the mirror. Gloved up, made my marks, cleaned up the area with iodine, opened my packaging and mentally prepared myself to be pierced. Now out of the 20 or so piercings that I currently have, only 2 were done by other people, but that is another story....I love to pierce myself, knowing I have full control and the feeling of the needle sliding through my skin just makes me feel on top of the world. It isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination to pierce yourself and I do fully suggest that a person should go to a professional to get work done. There is nothing wrong with piercing yourself, but at home is not a controlled sterile environment, and there are just too many risks. Anyway, back to the story at hand...
Ok, so there I was marked up, cleaned up, and now the rough part, the clamps....I tell you, I ended up almost being cross eyed from trying to put those damn things on and get my marks lined up evenly. It took 2 or 3 attempts, but finally I was satisfied. Clamps and cork in one hand, needle in the other, I started my breathing. Inhale, Exhale, Inhale, Exhale, Inhale, Exhale....pierce...and just like that I had a needle through my flesh. Again, the pain was negligable, I swear, it gets easier every time.......so off come the clamps, I grabbed the ring and badda bing, it was inserted. Now was the fun part. Have you ever tried to put a bead on a ring that sits almost right between your eyes?? My hands were in the way, I couldn't see what I was doing in the mirror and after about 3 attempts to see what I was doing, I just said the hell with it and closed my eyes and went by feel. That made things incredibly easier and in a matter of seconds the bead was in place and all I had to do was clean myself up. Tidied myself all up, took a look and it was perfect. Deep enough that it wasn't going to move, perfectly even and perfectly centered. I yelled out..."WHOO HOO!!" and of course Ryan and his client just had to see what I had done. They were both suitably impressed and I was happy as I had my bridge piercing back.
Healing was easy, I pretty much always use the LITHA method, I am so bad at never following my own advice, ...but all turned out well and good.
