For years I've been interested in getting a body piercing. As my 16th birthday came near, I decided that I wanted to get a piercing as a birthday present. I figured, it's my 'sweet sixteen' so my parents would for sure go for it. Turns out they didn't want to get me a piercing, and they told me that if I wanted one, I'd have to pay for it myself. So I was disappointed, to say the least. Considering I don't have a job right now, and, alas, no money.

Fortunately, on the Monday following my birthday, two of my friends had planned to take me to the piercer's, and surprise me with a piercing, for my birthday. Unfortunately we couldn't go, because I didn't know where my ID was, so the surprise was ruined, but we had planned to go later on that week. And so we did.

On Friday, we had an appointment at Tora Tattoo in Waterloo, Ontario for 6:00. I wasn't sure if I wanted my lip or my eyebrow pierced. Since both my brother and sister had some problems with their lip piercings, I decided that eyebrow was the best way to go.

Tora is a very well known piercing and tattoo place around here, because they are very sanitary, very professional, and they definitely know what they're doing. My friends, my mom and I arrived at Tora, on Friday evening, and I was pretty nervous, but excited. I knew I wasn't going to bail out, because I had wanted this for so long, nothing could have stopped me, except a dirty, unprofessional piercing shop.

Although law requires you to be 16 to get a piercing without parental permission, Tora requires you to be 18, so my mom had to show her drivers license, and sign the release form. My piercer, Deacon, was very friendly, and didn't seem to rush me while I was making any decisions. I first had to choose if I wanted a ring or a barbell. I chose the ring.

My friends and I went into the piercing room and everything was very clean, and organized. I sat down on the chair, while Deacon washed his hands, put on his rubber gloves, and got everything he needed for the piercing. Everything was sealed in it's own bag, and that added to the total sense of cleanliness and sanitary-ness of the whole experience, which made me pretty comfortable.

He went over the whole process, and showed me what he was going to be using, and so on. After I laid down on the chair, he first used some sort of solution to cleanse the skin around where the piercing was going to be. He marked the spot on my eyebrow where the ring was going to go in, and come out. I was pretty happy with where he put it, so he continued.

He measured the distance between the wholes, and prepared the ring accordingly. He then put the clamp on my eyebrow, and told me that it was very important that I breathe in and out in very deep, regulated breaths. My eyes were closed, and he told me to take one big deep breath in, while he was sticking the needle through. I didn't feel any pain, or burning, it was just a very weird feeling. It was an uncomfortable feeling, but it didn't hurt. Having my eyes closed, and that part of the experience being a little bit of a blur, he took the clamp off, and put in the ring, not necessarily in that order.

Deacon asked me if I was doing alright, I said yes, and he continued by cleaning the wound, very thoroughly. I was able to open my eyes, and he explained to me all of the aftercare information I needed to know. I asked him quite a few questions, about what I should do, what I shouldn't do, etc. It's always a good idea to ask your piercer a lot of questions if you have any, so that you feel comfortable knowing how to treat your new piercing. Deacon cleaned the entrance and exit of the piercing one last time, and then gave me an aftercare sheet, stapled to a copy of the release form, and we went to go pay.

I'm very happy with my piercing. I've been cleaning it twice a day, and I've been told to do so for two to three months, until it's fully healed. Since the first night, I'm able to move the ring a lot smoother, and easier. Although cleaning it is easy, it's time consuming and I have to do it twice a day to keep it clean. So far, it's looking very healthy, no sign of infection. I'm very happy with my new, awesome eyebrow ring.
