About half a year ago, I took my yearly trip to Phoenix (I live in Wisconsin, mind you). Of course, this time, I brought a friend with me. I had been into the body mod scene for a couple years, and I had planned on getting something done while I was in town. I had my heart set on a facial piercing, and I already had a list in mind. My friend already had a facial piercing in mind as well, along with a tongue piercing. We called the shop beforehand and asked if they did these certain piercings. When we asked them about the anti-eyebrow, the got a bit excited (I guess not many people get those, and he was excited to do one), and he said that he'll give us $12 off if we came in and got the anti-eyebrows done. Well, we were set, and pretty ecstatic. We had a little trouble getting there at first, but where there's a will, there's a way...and we found that way. So off we went, extremely excited all the way. We walked in, filled out the necessary forms, talked a bit, and then decided that I would go first. I had only planned on getting an anti-eyebrow on the left side, but after I pictured that, the unbalance of my facial piercings would probably annoy me down the line (since I had a left nostril piercing and a right eyebrow piercing as well). So right on the spot, I decided to get the right side of my lip done as well.

First, he did the anti-eyebrow. He picked a nice spot to do it, measured it, cleaned the area, and proceeded with the actual piercing, guiding my breathing all the way through. Of course, I've been through many piercings before, but this one was my favorite. It was extraordinary. Such a distinct feeling, it was electric. It was done so perfectly, virtually no blood at all. Afterwards, there was a rush that made me almost impatient for the next one. He did the lip, and it was perfect. It looked awesome, and suited me so well. I came out looking like a different person, with the image in my head that I had started well on it's way to completion.

Aftercare was a cinch. I always use the sea salt method, and recommend it as well. My lip healed up in no time. My anti-eyebrow still isn't fully healed, but it has not given me any problems. There are no signs of migration, infection, or anything. In fact, for the first week or so, it didn't even have much lymph crust to clean off (though I cleaned it anyway, just in case). Though, sometimes I do forget that it is there, and knock it, but this piercing seems to be unusually tough and has the strong will to survive. I think I have had more problems with my eyebrow piercing than this one.

After about two weeks in the agonizing heat, we flew back to Wisconsin, and boy, did people ever start at us. I went back to work, and I had a myriad of people wince and ask me if my face was really pierced like that. I explain it to them, some of them get it and think that it is quite interesting and unique; the others walk away, shaking their heads in disgust and/or horror. I don't get offended by those types of people, I just remind myself that everyone has their own way of living...some people are open-minded, some people are close-minded. It's just the way things work in this society. You can't enlighten everyone. I think that we are the first people in this part of Wisconsin to have a piercing like this. We definitely shocked, amazed, and interested people. Of course, there are probably those reading this, saying to themselves "An anti-eyebrow? That's not too extraordinary", but to you I say that you have to realize that I come from a very small town, a very conservative small town. Anything more than maybe a navel piercing is considered quite taboo, or to some, exotic. So having this sort of piercing is a bit alien to most people here. I have had many say that they want one too, but it's a bit sad to inform them that there are no shops around here that will perform such a piercing. Of course, the positive side to that is that it cuts down on the number of kids who go in, get it a piercing of that sort because they think that it will get them attention and noticed as a "rebel", but instead they end up messing up their faces tremendously.

I don't get my piercings and tattoos for the shock value or the attention. I get them because I see them as adding to my body even more things that make it a masterpiece. As an artist, I also see my body as a piece of art in the making. Regardless of what others think, I see it as an expression of the soul, and a release of sorts. And I do it all for myself. I will continue to do it until the aforementioned image in my head is complete. And as with many other pieces of art, this one will never be fully complete.

Next piercing: A second anti-eyebrow, right above the first. This is because of the second right eyebrow piercing that I received when I got back to Wisconsin. Now I have to balance that out with a second left anti-eyebrow.
