I have wanted to get my anti-eyebrow done for about a year and a half. Maybe because it is quite a unique and rare piercing. I have not seen anyone in real life (not from the internet) who has had it done. On the right face and position it looks simply amazing. So it just felt like my kind of piercing to go after.
At A Glance Author Stephany Contact Stephany@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Selfdone Being me, I love to try things out myself first before getting help to do it. So I thought 'Well I did my lobes and lip easily, why not this?' I was completely 100% wrong about this one!
I did not have many supplies to stock up on. I went to my local Canadian Tire and got a hollow needle about 14 gauge, only three dollars. I got a pack of water based latex gloves from Wal-Mart, only two dollars. I had extra barbells from my lip and tongue so I used a 14 gauge barbell I had from before.
Before I pierced it I marked the place, made sure there was no nerves or anything like that around the area. Then I placed an ice cube for about 5 minutes followed by rubbing alcohol. I put on the gloves and soaked everything in rubbing alcohol for about 10 minutes. That was another mistake because I really should have put the gloves on even before the ice cube.
I was ready to go for it. It was a very different feeling. I would have to say the most painful of my piercings, but I sure was not complaining. Some blood, not very much though. I would have to say one of the piercings I most enjoyed. I did not put on any vitamin e for lubricant, which was another mistake of mine. The needle came out pretty easy though. There was a little more blood, but not enough to complain about or anything.
Another one of my mistakes was that I did not have a curved barbel to fit my face correctly, I just had a straight one from my lip. So it did not feel quite right and was in a way uncomfortable. Also the barbell was a little to long for the piercing itself.
The next day there was horrible swelling and tenderness, not to mention throbbing. Within the next two days there was some bruising as well not too dark but it was there. It had gotten quite infected also. So I decided that was that and I removed it. I let it heal for about a month. A lot of crusties but it healed very well.
A friend of mine, Jamie is quite the piercing expert. I decided to let him do it over again for me. The only difference this time was that I was not the one doing it, he had a small clamp, some lubricant and he had gotten a very nice curved barbell. But it ended up to be a completely different experience, a better one in fact.
To start off with he marked the area. Double checked about nerves and high risk areas. He then cleaned it with a solution, I cannot remember the name of it. It was a bit tingly. He placed a piece of cloth where the needle would come. It felt a whole lot more correct.
The piercing itself was a different feeling from before. For some reason not as painful, more of a tingly feeling. He did not go as deep as I had, which is likely why. I really enjoyed the whole time. There was not as much blood this time. He had some sort of lubricant I am pretty sure that it was vitamin E, but I could be wrong. When He removed the needle it felt nice, there was a little more blood again but not too much more. Quickly he replaced it with the curved barbel, it has small silver beads.
There was very little tenderness or swelling which I found quite odd. No bruising what so ever this time. I think it is because he did not go as deep as I did. There were a couple crusties, but nothing to complain about. I clean it with a sea soak every night.
A lot of people think its a couple of beads that I have glued to my face. Its quite funny actually. It has been a good conversation starter. Someone told it looked like people from India with all of the stick on jewelery. Maybe thats where the idea for this piercing came from? A friend said it was like an eternal tear. Could be that too.
Bottom line I do not regret any of it. From me do piercing it myself I have learned thats a big no no. Just because lips and lobes are forgiving does not mean anywhere else will be.
I recommend this piercing to people who are sick of eyebrows, lips and lobes.
