When It just happened
Artist Travis....?
Studio Easy Street Tatto and Piercing
Location Santa Rosa, CA
As all of my friends know, I have always had quite an independent streak. So soon before my eighteenth birthday (which is today)I started thinking of what I should get done....tattoo? No, too permanent. Piercing, sure! But what? I thought I would look great with a lip....possibly even my tongue. But I am either too chicken or decided it wouldn't be the best thing to wear to work....so I decided on an eyebrow. Cute, yet conspicuous. So for the next couple of weeks, I endlessly researched, online and with friends, and eventually settled on the popular Easy Street parlor in town. I had heard they were great and friendly.

Of course, it took a little talking with my parents to get my dad to even consider it being okay. My mom actually didn't talk to me for about three hours I got home, but I think she's warming up.

So today rolled around, and I called them up. I asked how much it would cost and if I needed an appointment. It turned out to be $45 and I could just walk in. As I approached the door, I started to get uneasy...asking myself whether or not I really wanted this. But once I stepped inside, I knew there was no turning back. I walked in, and naturally, since i had just turned 18, I had never been inside a tattoo parlor. It was amazing to see all the different artists' work, it was so beautiful and colorful. I then walked over to the case and started looking at the different barbells and thinking about which one would look best. I met the guy who was going to do it and he was absolutely wonderful. He talked me through it, wished me a happy birthday and got to work.

I went in and sat down on what looked like a masseuse table. He showed me the barbell, which looked kind of big, but he explained that it would need to stay in for about 2 months and then I could change it to something smaller. So I sat there and and he applied the antibacterial stuff, and then complimented my eyebrows:) He then grabbed the toothpick and dabbed it with some purple ink and made two dots where he thought the barbell would look best. (I got all scared out when I saw the toothpick, because in an extreme moment of nervousness, I actually thought he was going to use it to pierce me) I told him I liked the placement on my left brow. He then had me lay down, and tapped both dots with the flat...yes, flat needle. Asked me if that was ok, and I said sure. Then he told me to breathe in, and that it was going to go in.

Now, I don't care what anyone says. It hurts. Quite a bit. It just depends on how well you can keep it in. It hurts, but not to the point where one would cry or scream. It just hurts, naturally it would, I mean, you're getting a blunt needle stuck through your un-anesthetized brow. But only for about 2 seconds. Then of course he put the barbell in and it hurt again. I got up and looked at it, and I loved it! I payed and tipped him, and was on my way. Before I left he explained how to clean and salt soak it. They said when I clean it in the shower I need to rotate it and that does not seem like it will feel too pleasant. Im just afraid it will fall out or something like that, or get caught on something while I'm asleep.

It doesn't really bother me, except for the fact that I can partially see it from the corner of my eye and can feel the weight of it there, all will fade away I assume. The only thing I regret is not having someone take pictures of it while it was getting done! Would have been a nice memento, ha ha. Not to mention I have this really bad habit of brushing my hair back with my hands, and I keep rubbing over it and moving it around, which does not feel good!

I went out with some friends a little after and they loved it! It felt good to walk around with my new piercing, it felt just as good as the day I got my extremely long hair cut to just below my shoulders. So as scary as it may seem to get a couple of holes punched into your face, it is definitely a confidence boost! And it totally got me excited about getting future piercings in the future, because now this experience had made me feel so much more comfortable and much less apprehensive about the whole thing, I may even get my lip done next time!
