I had originally gone into the shop to get an industrial in my right ear. I had been excited all day and practically bounced my way to the studio. For over a year now I've been fascinated with body modification, and as much as I would have liked to get a few facial piercings first, my mother didn't approve. "Only ears," she had said. I had saved up for months to get this industrial, eighty dollars being a fairly big dent in my wallet.

After Lexci was done on the phone, I told her what I wanted to get, then explained I was under sixteen so that's why my mother was there. A guy who worked there (I don't know his name) wasn't sure my ear was the right shape for it. After looking at it, he told me that one of the ridges was too high for the piercing. So I asked about the left, and him and Lexci agreed that I was still probably growing and getting an industrial this young would probably ruin my ear. So that idea was out.
My mother took me to the food court near by so we could talk things over. It was obvious that I was frustrated, since I had wanted this piercing for a long time. I had been saving up since Christmas, and now I was told I couldn't do it. As we sipped our carbonated drinks, I told my mum that the industrial was the piercing I most desired, besides a lip and an eyebrow. Of course, then the water works started... lucky for me, it was only slight leaking.
Then my mother suggested something that took me by complete and utter surprise. I don't remember her exact words, but she suggested me getting an eyebrow piercing. I gave her my classic quizzical look, right eyebrow arched and head tilted down slightly, then asked, "But aren't you total anti-facial-piercing?" I still can't believe my mother suggested it! So after a bit more discussion, mainly me trying to talk her into signing for a lip piercing instead, we went back to the shop. The lip was seventy-five and the eyebrow ranged between fifty and sixty-five. Mom, of course, opted for the eyebrow. The man who had told me my ridge was too high, showed me the jewelry. I refused to get pierced with a ring; one: because I think that sometimes they can look kind of tacky on eyebrows, and two: because a customer at the shop I work at told me about how her friend's hair got wrapped around the ring and she brushed her hair away, ripping the jewelry from her flesh. He showed me t he barbells with little crystals on them and I fell in love (I'm completely obsessed with sparkly things). I chose the one with the clear crystal since it was a very subtle glitter.
After we filled out the necessary forms (which I knew already since I had gotten my lobes pierced a few months before. I also tore them in an attempt to stretch so I had to go through the healing process all over again.), Lexci guided me into the piercing room. I had no questions or concerns, so we just kinda got to it. I was told to lay back and close my eyes while she did the piercing. Moments before she stabbed the needle through me, I was thinking 'What about the clamps?' but then reminded myself that some piercers didn't use clamps on eyebrows.
"Breathe in." I was told and then.... stab. The needle had gone through the lower part of my eyebrow. "And out..." It hurt more as the needle came out of my flesh, and I'm sure I made a small whimper when it did. I kind of wish I could have watched it through a mirror or something... I'm sure it would have been fun to see my expression. I could feel everything so much better than when I had my lobes pierced, my piercer pulling out the needle and putting in the barbell, then screwing the ball on. And then... it was all over. I thanked her about a dozen times and went out to see my mother.
After we came home, I called up my best friend and we talked for an hour about it. She couldn't believe what had happened either. It wasn't something my mother would normally let me do, but it was her idea.
The piercing doesn't hurt very much, only when I play with the barbell (which I have a habit of doing) or accidently knock it when I'm brushing my hair out of my face. The bottom ball of the barbell still amuses me to look at since I can sort of see it. I love it more than words can say, and it was defiantly better than risking ruining my ear.
