Ever since I was 14 I always wanted to get a piercing. I love tongue, lip, nipple, and labret piercing, and of course, eyebrows. By nature I've always been a very indecisive person. My tastes change from one day to the next, but I figured an eyebrow piercing would be a safe way to go. It wouldn't be in the way too much, it's not too masculine, and it would not show much of a scar after I removed it.

I was watching TV one night with my boyfriend, and I told him I'd like to get my eyebrow pierced. He kind of laughed at first but then said it might be a good idea. I decided the next day was the time.
I went to work the next day and my nervousness started to mount. I recently started to work for a medical billing company, and although my boss is really laid back, I wasn't really sure what he would think about it, so I decided a "surprise" would be in order.
I had night class that evening till about 7:00. Afterward I called my brother (who is quite the tattoo boy with 29 inked areas to boast) and asked him to come with me. I got to the tattoo parlor first and chatted around with my brother's regular artist for a few minutes until my brother arrived. As the time passed I got more and more nervous, I'm not really a big fan of needles, and the idea of having one so close to my eye wasn't exactly enticing. I looked through some tattoo books while I waited and actually found some cool ideas for my own future ink. Finally my brother got there and it was time to do it. Shane took my license and photocopied it, and then I signed my life away (joke). As I followed him into the piercing room, I got a little more nervous. Before he could ask I told him I wanted a bar instead of a hoop, because I think the hoops look kind of trashy on girls. He kind of laughed and got out the needle and ring and so on and so forth. I sat down on the chair a nd made my brother hold my hand. Shane laughed and told me eyebrows are one of the easiest piercing to get. He put the clamp on my face and told me to take a deep breath and let it out slowly when he told me to. All I could think to myself was "oh god, oh god, oh god..." just waiting for the excruciating pain, but surprisingly there was none. Before I knew it the bar was in and Shane was telling me it was all over. It didn't hurt at all, seriously no pain at all. When I looked in the mirror for the first time afterward, I thought it looked kind of funny. But the more I looked at it the more I was glad about getting it done, not just for the way it looked, but also for what it meant to me. I had never done anything that made me feel so free. I had just quit a really crappy job where I would have been fired for doing this, and I knew I didn't have to answer to anyone for it. It was great!
The next day when I saw all my friends, they were all really surprised I actually when through with it. They all think it looks good and they think it matches my personality perfectly. Although it was sore, every time I'd see my new ornament, I couldn't help but feel really good about it. I smile whenever I see it.
The next time I went to work my boss didn't even say much about it. He said, "Hey! That looks cool! Did it hurt?" His wife who also works there said it gave her the willies to think about getting her eyebrow pierced. So that went over pretty smoothly.
The real moment of truth would come when my parents saw it, my dad especially. He was hoping I'd be the "good" child, taking into consideration my brother's 29 tattoos. When I went to my parent's that weekend, my mom noticed it first. She was like "Oh my God!" she kind of laughed and just rolled her eyes. Surprisingly she didn't say much. My dad however got pretty pissed. He wouldn't speak to me for a hour, when he did he just couldn't understand "...why I would want to do that." I just said I wanted to and he got over it (although I know he still hates it).
So that's my story. It's still itchy and dry but it's getting better. I'm so glad I did it and I wouldn't change my experience for anything. Next I hope to get my tattoos, and an industrial piercing. Till next time....
