I had been contemplating getting the bridge of my nose for several months. So many people discouraged me claiming that it was 'too weird' after which i would simply remind them that I too am weird. Cheap Trx, the best piercing parlor in St. Louis, offers an individual's sixth piercing free of charge with the purchase of jewelry. I was at that point and was ready to get a new hole in my face against the advice of almost everyone I have asked advice from. I had only seen two other people with this piercing done. One guy works at the piercing shop and the other was a random girl who I noticed at a restaurant. Either way, I thought it was beautiful and I wanted one for myself.

I must admit that, although this was my sixth piercing, (not including my stretched ear lobes) I was quite nervous about the procedure. It just seemed scarier than all of my other piercings and I expected it to be extremely painful even though they told me it should not be. My piercer was very helpful, as they always are at Cheap Trx, and kindly spoke with me about anything and everything while preparing to pierce my bridge. Beforehand he informed me that bridge piercing was one of the most difficult piercings to learn how to perform, probably due to the difficulty in getting the piercing straight. The main hassle with the procedure is marking and remarking with a marker on either side of your nose until one is satisfied with the position of both dots. This took a while, but not as long as I had anticipated from what he had told me.

After he was done marking me, William then proceeded to clamp the skin of my nose and told me to take deep breaths. The piercing seemed to take longer than my other piercings which tended to be extremely quick. Everything seemed to be in slow motion as the needle moved through the skin. I would not describe the situation as painful whatsoever. It was, however, intense. I was slightly shocked when I first saw the piercing in my face. It was a drastic change. At first, I thought that this might be the first piercing I regret, but within a couple of days I got over it and have learned to love it all over again.

There was a decent amount of blood immediately following the piercing. My piercer cleaned it several times, then informed me that it would continue to bleed. He could only do so much. I had to hold a paper towel to it all the way home to keep it from bleeding all over me. For the first 24 hours I could see every light on earth reflecting off the balls directly into my eyes. It was extremely annoying. I felt as if there were headlights coming at me no matter where I looked. Fortunately this slowly faded. I rarely even notice it now. Besides the temporary blinding reflection, I also experienced a tremendous headache just above the piercing which lasted a couple of days. I was told to expect this as well, so it was no big deal.

When I arrived home from the piercing shop, I was admiring my newest piercing in the mirror when suddenly a massive amount of blood began running down my face out of either side of the piercing. It looked as if I were crying a large amount of blood. I called the piercer and asked if it was normal. I don't remember ever bleeding that much before in my life. I was told to apply pressure to the piercing to cause the blood to stop running out of my face and that it may continue for a while. It did not last for very long and never did it happen again. I have both the entire piercing procedure (save some of the marking part which was tedious and boring) and some of the blood afterward on video.

I clean my bridge piercing daily with lever 2000 antibacterial wipes. I find them extremely convenient for cleaning all my piercings and have not had a single problem from using them. It was rather difficult to clean the first few times due to the position of the jewelry and the blood flow that would result every time I touched it, but I think nothing of cleaning it now that it has begun to heal. As a retainer I have found that a small piece of clear weed wacker line works beautifully! There are still two noticeable holes on the bridge of my nose, but they are much less conspicuous than say, the jewelry. I love my bridge piercing and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in getting it done.
