On my 17th birthday my parents told me that we were going to go out to celebrate my birthday. I got in the car with my parents and my little brother who was 5 at the time. The next thing I knew we were in front of Dragon Works. I looked at my parents and they told me that they were finally letting me get my eyebrow pierced. When we got into the shop, the first thing they did was ask both of my parents for photo id, my dad didn't have his license with him, so he had to drive back home and get it.

While my dad was getting his license, my mom, brother, and I sat in the shop and watched some guy get a tattoo on his arm and watched a bit of Joe Dirt, because they were playing it in the shop. While waiting for my dad to return, the piercer started to prepare everything so he would be ready when my dad came back. My mom kept asking me if I really wanted to get it done, I think she was expecting me to chicken out.

Finally, my dad returned with his license. The guy asked me which side I wanted pierced, and I told him the left side. He used a marker and put dots on my eyebrow to determine the placement of the piercing. He then put on a clamp, and told me to take a deep breath, and next thing I knew, he was done. I do remember looking over at my little brother and my parents as seeing the expressions on their faces. My mom looked like she was in pain herself, I thought that was pretty funny. It was pretty painless, the most painful part was when he was putting the ball on the end of the barbell. Then he went over the cleaning and care instructions, my parents paid and we left.

The piercer told me not to play with my eyebrow, but I couldn't help it. I couldn't believe that I had actually gotten it done. Although the piercing was fairly painless, it was really sore afterwards. I usually sleep on my left side, so it took awhile getting used to having to sleep on the right side. I also got it caught on my shirt a few times when getting changed. But other than that I didn't really have too many problems with it.

One thing that I didn't like was that they didn't tell me what gauge they had used to pierce me with. Of course, I didn't even think about that until my piercing was healed and I wanted to change it. So I asked my friend and he told me that it was most likely a 16 gauge. So i went out and got a new ring for my eyebrow.

I took care of my piercing, it got infected once but it cleared up quickly. When I got a job at a grocery store, I was told that I could not have my eyebrow ring in during work. So I got a retainer for it, and put that in before work, and took it out after work. That lasted about a month, until I dropped the retainer down the sink. By that time the piercing was healed, so I decided just to take out the ring and not put anything in, and then put it back after work.

I did this for awhile before I had any problems. But one night after work I was in my car trying to put it back in, but I couldn't find the top hole. I tried to get it in for about ten minutes. Finally I got so frustrated, that I just jammed the barbell into the bottom hole, and it came out of the top. It hurt a lot, more than it did when i first got it pierced. When I took my hand away I realized that I was bleeding. When I got home, I looked in the mirror and saw that I had missed the original hole, and pierced a new, much lower hole.

Lots of people told me that it looked like it was growing out, but I had to tell them that I re-pierced it too low. Which was really not a good idea. I still love my eyebrow ring, but I'm angry at myself for re-piercing it instead of just waiting until I got home to put it back in. So if you have to take your piercing out for work, or something else no matter how old it is you should put a retainer in it. And also when you are putting it back in, be patient and be in front of a mirror with lots of light to avoid doing what I did.
