Since I was age 11 I had wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. Thinking about it now I'm not sure what made me want one as bad as I did. Each year I would ask my mom if she would take me to get it done and she would tell me the same thing every time "If you do good in school." She always backed down and after many of her friends had told her they wouldn't let their children get it done she finally told me I would have to wait till I was old enough to take my self. I got my first piercing about 9 months ago at age17, I'm now 18.

Studio Mystic Piercing and tribal tattoo Location Crofton, Maryland It was late May 2002 and me and my best friend Heather both 17, were spending the 2nd day of the Hfstival, a rock music festival put on by a radio station 99.1 Whfs, bored. With about 60 bucks in my pocket we decided to get pierced. Walking through the midway of the festival we noticed that one of the piercing tents wasn't carding for the piercings they were giving. Normally you have to be 18 but the girl at Mystic Piercing and tribal tattoo just asked if we were over 16. We looked at the pictures hanging around the tent, the place is better known as Jimmy's, and most of my friends had been pierced there and were featured in the pictures. After filling out paper work and waiting in line about two hours for a piercer who did eyebrows, my turn finally came. Having never been pierced before my best friend and me wasn't sure who should go first, so I was brave and went first.
Under the tent were 3 chairs; our piercer Ryan was using the last chair. I bravely sat down and he began to work. I wasn't sure which side I wanted it pierced on so I told him it didn't matter and that he could pick. He picked my right eyebrow and began to mark the angle using a protractor. Heather stood next to me for support but I didn't need it. I joked around that I felt like I was going cross-eyed since Ryan's fingers in my face were causing my eyes to get messed up and go towards the center. Instead of focusing on what Ryan was doing I watched the girl next to me get her nipple pierced. Two of her friends held her hands as she began to cry, she hadn't eve gotten pierced yet. I gave a friendly smile to her and she managed to smile back.
Ryan placed the clamp down and then told me to breath in but I stopped breathing all together. He stuck the needle through and I didn't even flinch. The pain was hardly there since all I could feel was the clamp. He readied the ring and removed the cramp and needle. The ring went half was through and then it seemed as if it was stuck. So he removed the ring and opened a new needles and stuck it all the way through. But when he removed the 2nd needle I began to bleed a lot. He did his best to get the ring in and stop the bleeding. I joked with him about not getting any on my bathing suit.
Heather got a Monroe done and when we were done Ryan took our picture. We told him thank you and that we would be back so heather could get mouthwash later in the day. It never bled again. One problem with getting it done at an out door festival was that it was hot and the sweat was making the after pain worse.
They gave me an ointment that helped it heal but for many weeks I still woke up with it crusty and sometimes it was hard to move the ring but in order to keep it from growing into the skin I had to move it around. Every time I would touch it my mom would flinch and make a face. Now it is fully healed and I have given it a partner piercing as I got a second eyebrow piercing in December of 2002. I now pull on it and tell my mom to but she is afraid. It is fun to torment my mom.
With each new piercing I get I worry about infection. All though I didn't get an infecting from my piercing at the festival I wouldn't get another one in that type of setting because there is to much change of contamination in a open setting. So if you are thinking about doing this make sure that everything is in unsealed plastic and that they don't open it till you are sitting right there in the chair. Keep your self-safe.
