I got my eyebrow pierced in August and liked it so much that I began thinking about getting another piercing. Then, back in October (2002), I happened to stumble across the anti-eyebrow piercing pictures on this website, and ever since I have wanted to get one. On Friday I finally got it.
At A Glance Author Rachel Contact Rachel@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Mike Studio Dogstar Location Durham, NC Friday right after my classes two of my friends and I headed over to Dogstar to get pierced. One friend was getting his tongue and cartilage pierced; my other friend was getting a tattoo. We got to the shop and the guys behind the desk asked what we wanted done. I said I wanted and a piercing and pointed to where I wanted it, thinking he might not know what it was called. He said, "Oh, you want an anti-eyebrow piercing!" That relieved me very much because I was definitely afraid that they wouldn't know how to do that piercing. It turns out they had never done one at that shop, but they did know how. The price would be $60, which shocked me because my eyebrow piercing was only $35, but I guess the anti-eyebrow is a more complicated piercing.
I filled out the standard form and then was a little disappointed when they told me I could only get a silver curved barbell, because I wanted a blue one to match my eyebrow piercing. Well I can always change the jewelry so it's not that bad. Anyway, after all the paperwork was done we kind of hung around looking at tattoo designs because my friend wasn't sure what she wanted, and meanwhile I was getting more and more nervous. Then it was time for my friend to get his tongue pierced, and I went in to watch. Very freaky stuff there, and he looked like he was going to pass out after it was done. After the room was cleaned and prepared, it was my turn.
My piercer, Mike, said he was excited to be doing an anti-eyebrow piercing for the first time. I told him I wanted the same angle as my eyebrow piercing and he started making the marks. He had to erase them several times before he thought they were perfect, all in all he spent about 5 minutes doing the markings which showed me that he was very professional. When I got up to look at what he had done the angle was perfect but I wanted it moved a little to the left, so he did that and then it looked great.
Mike then showed me all of the stuff he was going to use to pierce me, and then had me lie down on the table. One of the apprentices who worked in the shop came in and asked me if it was ok for him to watch, and I said sure. Then Mike put the clamp on, and I wasn't expecting pain from that because the clamp hadn't hurt on my eyebrow, but it did hurt this time. Mike had me do the deep breathing, counted to three, and put the needle through as I breathed out. The only way I know how to describe the pain was that it felt about the same as my eyebrow, which wasn't too bad. Then he put the jewelry in and I didn't even feel that.
The bad part of the story starts now. Because the piercing is right up against my face, Mike had a lot of trouble getting the ball on the end of the barbell. He had to smash my cheek down and the jewelry up and it took him about 10 minutes and about five different balls (all from sterilized packages of course) to finally get one on. All the smashing made my new piercing sting and it even started bleeding. When he got the ball on he cleaned off the blood, then I got up to look at my new piercing and it looked awesome! My friends told me that they had thought it would look weird, but actually it looks really good, so that was a big ego boost. Then Mike took a picture of me for his portfolio, explained about cleaning the piercing, and told me I should replace they barbell that is in now with a smaller barbell in about three weeks. So yay, I don't have to have the silver one in for long! They also sold me a cleaning kit for $5, and it included medicated soap and sea salt s. I was happy about that because I didn't have to worry about going out and buying the right cleaning stuff. Then I was free to watch my friend get her tattoo!
(Eventually there will be pictures on here... I'm the girl with the blue barbell for my eyebrow and the silver barbell for my anti-eyebrow.)
