It all started when I was sixteen and wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. It came down to me going to Toronto one day and getting my left eyebrow done at Passage. Needless to say, after an encounter with my parents, the beloved eyebrow was removed. I had lost my piercing of choice and was not happy with the outcome of removing my ring two weeks later.

Move ahead to a twenty-year old University student with many more mods now, both visible and non-visible. After a long time thinking, I decided that it was time to get my beloved eyebrow ring back, but this time, to go with a barbell, and to get both my left and right sides done. I have a large thing with the need to be symmetrical and just having my one eyebrow done just wasn't going to cut it. Ancient Expressions had been my choice of shop in town since I had gotten there at the beginning of the school year. I had heard many good things about them and had been recommended to them by various people in the industry in Toronto. I had also become a pretty good friend with all of the people working there, so I had seen the way they worked, and compared them to other shops in the area. So in I went, told Dan what I wanted, and away we went. Back of the shop we were, laid everything out, got all prepped, cleaned the area off, ran through the general speech, half of which I did myself, and proceeded to the marking stage. I am very anal when it comes to perfection (as expected in any mod), I'm not just, place it anywhere. After a while of me bitching politely, Tony the owner came back and helped Dan with the markings. He was slightly more experienced and gave a second opinion as to location; eventually they suited my needs.

Tony left to the front of the shop to take care of some business and Dan got everything finally prepped and ready top go. As he clamped my left side I freaked out, I had forgotten to mention to Dan that I have a problem with things (aka, people's hands, bugs, big metal clamps, ect.) near my eyes, and after calming down and reassuring him I was not going to do it again, he lined everything up again and was ready to go. The sensation of being pierced was totally painless, never even felt a thing from start to finish, which I remember from he previous time I'd had it done. The curved barbell was put in, some procedural pictures were taken and it was on to the right side. Had a little problem again with Dan's hands and the equipment that near to my eyes, but I lived. The needle slid through and again, absolutely nothing was felt in the way of pain or pleasure. Jewellery was inserted and I was all finished, paid my $60 for both, a little discount was given for being a good custo mer, being a friend, and bringing in a lot of business, and I was on my way. First thing I noticed was that I could catch the sun shinning off of the balls in the corners of my eyes. For the first week or so, I could always notice the ball there, constantly giving me terrors of things close to my eyes, but I adjusted over time. I never really experienced the expected energy rush, then low that I normally have, my conclusion for this was that I never experienced feeling during the procedure.

They healed fairly well with only a few times of mild irritation from sleeping or being bashed changing or showering. Every time I looked into the mirror, I was in love with my long awaited return of my eyebrows. They never became infected, never got torn, and never caused any large degree of pain. I received many compliment of my new jewellery, as well as many negative responses, all of which I had to take in stride and expect some people to not be ok with it, my parents included. They eventually learned to live with it, understanding that after four years, if I still had the urge to get it done, there was no stopping me. Afterwards I felt more complete and more whole with my new eyebrows and now feel that they make u p a large part of me. Pictures have been taken of Dan's work and is now in his portfolio. I rarely, if ever, notice the balls anymore, still have no problems or irritations and neither barbell has moved or migrated the slightest amount in the last six months. They are two of my favourite piercing and I hope that nothing ever goes wrong with them. Pictures are available on my IAM site.
