When I was about 16 1/2 I had gone to a local Punk concert, while in the pit I had seen 1 guy with his eyebrow pierced, it looked as if he had a curved barbell piercing. From that point I knew that I wanted to get my eyebrow pierced.

I had then started doing some research on piercings, which ones looked the best, which ones appealed to me the most, which ones looked like they hurt the most. I had finally decided I want my right eyebrow pierced along with my lip. I told my mom this new bit of information in my life; all she could say was "HELL NO YOUR GETTING PIERCED!" For months I would bring it up every few weeks or so, saying how much it meant to me, how it was the way I wanted to express myself, how the girls would like it. She would just ignore me, but the after awhile, I seemed to have stricken a blow with the eyebrow piercing. Seems she had seen one on some guy who worked at Starbucks, she said it didn't look TOO bad. She was still firmly against the lip; I gave up on that one. Fast forward a couple months, I had been through a lot in those 2 months, and was so stressed out over so much. My sis wanted to go down to the tattoo shop to get a tattoo, she invited me. I once again asked my mom about ge tting my eyebrow pierced, with some reluctance, she called the tattoo shop to see if they do piercings. They did, she asked how much an eyebrow would cost? They told her it would be $45 and that covered the jewelry and everything. My mom hung up and said this would be an early birthday present. I was very excited, after so long I was finally getting my eyebrow pierced.
We drove down to the tattoo shop, it was a great place, artwork everywhere, a comfy couch, leopard carpeting. I really liked it, so did my friend, she had been very excited when I told her I wanted to get my eyebrow pierced a while back when we were dating. She was just like me; piercings intrigued her very much and didn't want to miss this. We talked to the assistant who handled the customers with information and such. Zach Johnson, he was a very friendly guy, had piercings all over his ears and a few on his face. I told him what I wanted, he asked my age, 16, he needed to see a parents ID and my ID to verify she is my guardian/parent. I gave him my school ID/Health Card and my moms Drivers License. He copied them for their files, returned them to us and went over everything with us. We signed the proper forms and he showed me the jewelry case. I must've spent 20 or so minutes looking through that case, I showed him what I wanted, but he told me that it would be too heavy for a fresh piercing and that for new eyebrow piercings they give a ring and bead as its the right weight and easier to clean. Since I didn't know very much, I agreed with what he said and chose a nice small steel ball. He said ok and went into the back to prepare everything. I then had a chance to speak to my piercer "Painles" Jen Mclellan. She was also very friendly and had way more piercings than Zach and tattoos, she showed me where the room was, I asked if I could bring a friend, she said just one. I brought my friend Sarah and sat in the chair, she opened packets of iodine towlets and sterilized the area on my eyebrow. She then got a marker and asked where I wanted it, I told her where and she suggest a tad more to my left as if its too far to the right it may just rest on the temple of my head. She then put a practice ring on to show me, I liked it and she said OK. She then put on gloves and opened up packets with sterilized instruments, she cleaned the area once mor e with iodine, then told me what she was going to do. I said ok, I was shaking a bit, not knowing what'll happen. She then got an instrument to clamp onto my eyebrow and I felt the needle on my skin. She then said "Ok Gabe, now Breathe in, Breathe out, Breathe in...."
I then felt a sharp pain go thru the side of my head and griped down onto the chair with all my might, my eyes watered and a tear came out. I actually jumped a bit and because of the pain and because of that something was out of place. My bodies system kicked in and I was very calm and seemed to feel no pain just some pressure. She got some new instruments and gloves and was able to fix what went wrong; the whole time my friend had her jaw dropped and was whimpering. I didn't know it, but I had a nicely sized trail of blood going down my face. The ring was in, the steel ball was in and everything was just great! They then led me out to the front of the tattoo shop asking me if I was ok or felt dizzy. I felt fine and was just more excited than ever, I had finally gotten it done. Zach then sat me down on the couch and then went over what had just happened. He told me about all the aftercare and what not to do. Also told me about how long it would take to heal and that certain vitamins would decrease the healing time. I understood everything and then my mom went to go pay. My friend looked at me and with a smirk she said, "I approve". Wouldn't you know it; a girl is walking towards the tattoo shop and stops at the window to look at my piercing and comes in. She asks me about it and everything, I think she found me attractive just because of the piercing, haha.
That day was one if the greatest days in my life, it sparked something in me, I now noticed every piercing on everyone I saw and met. I loved talking about how I got my eyebrow pierced to anyone who asked. I could tell this wasn't the end for me in piercing my body. If anyone out there is thinking about piercing themselves, do so. Find a respectable shop and do some research on it. With the right piercer and good aftercare you'll love your piercing for years to come. I do, I was also able to finally convince my mom into letting me get my lip pierced. But that's another story for another time...
