Well I'm not a big piercer type person - all I've got is six in my ears. But I'd wanted an eyebrow ring for so long!! The only thing stopping me was my job - I didn't want to get fired! Fortunately, I quit my job a couple of weeks ago and I decided that I would celebrate by finally getting the eyebrow thing done. It was my first time with a needle piercing (my ears had just been done with guns) and I was soo nervous. I happen to have a bit of a fear of needles (understatement of the century), but I was determined to get it done! I went around to a few places in town, and decided on Jamie and Lee's. They seemed pretty hygienic, the people knew what they were doing, they had a good rep., etc. I made an appointment for a Saturday afternoon and all I had to do was wait!

I ended up showing up like an hour early, and almost backed out because I was so nervous. Fortunately, my friend was there and she made me stay! The time passed quickly and soon a woman came out and asked me what I wanted done. I told her I had an appointment to get my eyebrow pierced. She eyed me a bit suspiciously because I look pretty young for my age. I gave her my I.D. which she studied for like ten minutes before finally she said it was fine (I'm only sixteen, but you don't have to be over eighteen to get eyebrow piercings in Australia)

She gave me a choice between a ring and a barbell and I chose a plain silver barbell. It was larger than I had wanted, but the piercing woman said this was in case my eyebrow swelled - which happened a lot, and reassured me that I could probably change it in about eight weeks time to a smaller barbell.

Then there was nothing else to do but get it pierced. My friend was not allowed to come with me into the piercing room, so I was all alone. The woman got me to lie on the dentist-type chair, cleaned my eyebrow, and put two dots on it. Then she wiped them off and put two more on. She did this about five times, until she was pleased. I took a look in the mirror, it seemed alright to me. Then she told me to relax, because if I was too worked up she wouldn't pierce my eyebrow. After a few minutes, and I had given the appearance of calming down, she told me to close my eyes. I felt her put a clamp on my eyebrow. A few seconds later, a jab from the needle. There was a tiny bit of pain and it went away straight away. In went the barbell (which I couldn't feel), and it was over! I couldn't believe how painless it was!! My ear piercings had hurt a lot more.

She got me to sit on the chair for a few minutes to "recover", and also so she could clean up the blood (although she didn't tell me this at the time - I saw the dried blood later). Then she explained about aftercare - washing it with sea salt, or medicated soap, etc. She also warned me about the type of jewellery to buy for my eyebrow, saying some of it was a bit dodgy. Then she told me to come back again in 2 weeks for a checkup. It made me feel a bit more comfortable knowing that they get you to come back for 2, 4, 8, and 10 week checkups.

I had to get my friend to put my key card through and pay for it because I was shaking! I had got all worked up thinking it would be really painful, and it wasn't. My adrenalin had nowhere to go!

When I got home, my mum refused to look at it for about two hours, and then she finally said "God! It's halfway up your forehead!!", my dad said "Well I suppose I won't disown you...it doesn't look that bad."

My eyebrow didn't hurt at all after the piercing, even when I touched it. I've only had it in for a week or so, but it hasn't swelled at all, and it hasn't caused me any problems (unlike my ear piercings which reacted really badly). The only problem I have had is everyone coming up and asking 'does it hurt?'. Annoying.

Oh and I named my piercing Pete because I have an attachment to naming things. *shrugs*

Good luck for anyone who is going to get their brow pierced - and relax, because it we're not lying when we say it doesn't really hurt.
