Maybe I am a little to nerve racking, or perhaps too high strung. However, when this story occurred when I had never hand anything pierced before, besides my ears, and therefore, the anxiety was there. This was also, of course before any tattoos. Anyways, as the story goes, I decided to get my eyebrow pierced. I had a roommate at the time, which had several tattoos and did allot of things on a whim.
At A Glance Author amandaleigh5 Artist Can't recall Studio DC Location Our capitol She convinced me and another girl to go and get piercing. She was going to get her tongue done, and I had wanted to get my eyebrow pierced. I can't recall what the other girl wanted because she just wound up getting her cartilage pierced. Ok, so we all truck off to the studio. I am so nerve racked out, I can't bring myself to go first. We do all our paper work and my roommate says she'll go first. I should have NEVER let this happen. Watching her get that piece of metal shoved up her tongue did not make me want to jump in that chair. However, she did awesome, that brave girl. I decided to go next despite all my fear. Jumped in the chair, and got ready. I was so freaked out. I feel quite lame about this because it wasn't painful at all and since then I have gotten more mods, which I love, however at the time, I was freaked out.
My moral of the story is, don't watch others before you get something done. Just do it. If you really want it done, you will want it regardless of any pain involved. I loved my eyebrow ring. I have since retired it, but I really enjoyed it the time I had it. Same kind of experience happened when I got my first tattoo. I was so nervous, but it wasn't anything as bad as I imagined. I am a newcomer to mods, mainly because I take a lot of time to think them out. However, I love what I have gotten done. Everyday I wouldn't change a thing.
So here is a list of rules for newcomers, getting their first stuff done. 1-take a friend, but don't let them get stuff done first; it will just make you more nervous. Take them for moral support. 2. Piercings don't need in my opinion, as much thought as a tattoo. In general they are temporary and to get your tattoo removed costs too damn much and also looks cruddy, you may is well keep it in the long run, because usually it will look better then what you'll have leftover. 3- eat something before you go, but not right before. You don't want to puke but you want your stomach to be settled. 4. Wear comfortable clothes and have your place of modification easily accessible. You don't want to be stripping in the middle of the studio, or have a weird situation, like getting your head caught in your shirt or wearing old underwear. 5. Do your research. Don't just go anywhere. Ask around. Ask modded people in your area. You want to know where you can go to get good work done, and know its safe. You don't want diseases or crappy stuff done, because for the most part once it's done, it's done. Plus diseases suck. I'm working in dentistry (orthodontics), and you have to be so careful with anything using needles. You can get hepatitis B really easy. SOOOO be careful and you will have nothing to worry about. Same goes for when it's done. Take care of things. Be clean. Infections are never good no matter what. They are no fun either. Make sure you clean and take care of your new work. 6. Make sure you know what you want. Plan it out, talk about it. Think about it. And then do it. 7. Show it off. You look fantastic, your new mod, and so you should show it. Let everyone oooh and aahh. 8. Don't listen to people who try to put it down. Did you get it for them? I think not. You got it for yourself and so your opinion is the only one that matters. 9. Enjoy it day to day. And get ready, because sooner or later you will be getting some more. It's way to addicting, but you can change your body to however you want it to be. I was always self-conscious of my appearance, but mods have made me feel beautiful. I am so thankful for them. They have shot up my self-esteem and given me so much to feel good about. They have made me feel beautiful and I love them all. 10. Get ready to answer a ton of questions. Do you know why everyone who doesn't have tattoos always asks about them? Because they are so interested, and I am sure deep down they are dying for one themselves. Your mods will become such a conversation piece. Whether you are at a ballet or a rock show, a bookstore or a record store people will ask you questions. So be ready. And be ready for compliments too. Remember those when others bad mouth your mods, and remember all that matters is you and how you feel about them.
So if you feel like getting something think it over and get it done. Don't be a nerve rack like I was the first time I got anything done. And definitely don't let your roommate go first. Or your friend, or anyone for that matter. Just get up in that chair/stool whatever, and put your brave face on. Chances are you will remember those moments for a long time to come, and you will cherish the outcome of those moments even more throughout the rest of your life. When I am an old grandma, I will be sporting all my mods and I will be so proud of them. My grandma now is proud of hers and I know she tells me it's the fact that it is her life experience and memories printed and kept with her forever.
