I wanted my eyebrow pierced! I'd seen it for years, and initially, felt pain when I saw it on other people, but then decided that I wanted one myself. I found it pretty, and feminine, and thought that I had the ability to pull it off. I'd gotten my tongue pierced already, but it was simply a matter of getting up the courage to go and do it. It'd been weighing on my mind for awhile. I went to a couple of piercing places in my area, looked at prices and got impressions of the people and studios, but couldn't bring myself to get the piercing done. Then I went on vacation.

My best friend lives in Las Vegas, and I'd been there once before. During that visit, I went with her to get her navel pierced, and while I held her hand, I didn't look. The guy that did her piercing was amazing, and the shop was a really cool place on the Vegas strip. I mentioned to her that I wanted to get my eyebrow pierced, and she said that if I wanted to get it done while I was out there, she'd gladly take me and we'd be sure to go back to where she'd gotten hers done, since she had such a great experience with them. I figured it was a basic "now or never" kind of situation and told her that I wanted to. I was there for her birthday, so on the day of her birthday, we went out to dinner and decided that after we ate, we'd go by the shop so I could get my new piercing.

I decided against telling my parents that I was getting it done. They knew I wanted it, but probably didn't think I'd get it done. They surely didn't think I'd get my tongue pierced the year before! The fact that no one knew added to the excitement, and by the time we got to the parlor, I was shaking with nerves and adrenaline. I couldn't figure out why I was so nervous. I had the constant flutters in my stomach while I filled out the paperwork, looked at different rings, showed them my ID and waited my turn with the piercer. I'd already gotten my tongue pierced, and that was a piece of cake!

My best friend came with me into the back room. It was a different guy then the one who'd done her navel piercing when I was there last, but he was just as friendly. He chatted while he got ready, explaining to me the procedure and what all the stuff was that he was pulling out. The room was absolutely clean, and he opened every package in front of me. I had the utmost confidence that I had nothing to be concerned with in this shop. He came over, cleaned the area where I told him I wanted it to be, and marked with the little purple pen to make sure that was where I wanted the hole. I looked in the mirror, imagining the little silver ring sticking out, and knew that I'd made the right decision. My legs weren't so certain, and they were still shaking. I nodded, and lied back on the table as instructed. He took the needle, which I saw before he made me close my eyes. Man that thing was big! My legs shook more. He clamped my eyebrow, which made me squeal a bit, and said that on the count of three, he'd put the needle through. My friend stood next to me and held my hand. He counted, slowly, and then I felt the push. It was like a pinch. I wouldn't say that I didn't feel it, but it definitely didn't hurt. As soon as the needle was through, I felt the rush of endorphins through my body, like a huge release, and I had a different kind of tremor in my stomach. The nerves were gone... just excitement remained. He put the ring through, had me open my eyes, and gave me a hand mirror to look at it. I wasn't allowed to sit up until he'd gone over all the aftercare instructions, making sure I knew how to take care of it, and giving me the phone number in case I had any questions or problems. I still felt shaky, so he made me sit a little bit longer, wanting to make sure that I was okay to leave, and when I did, I left with a huge smile on my face.

We left and went to the grocery store so that I could buy Bactine and headed back to my friend's apartment. I was so thrilled with the look of it, and for the first time in my life, couldn't stop looking in the mirror. I loved the look of it! I was really hesitant to touch it, and at first, the site of the piercing was tender, but didn't hurt at all. The healing was quick and pain free, with no problems of infection or anything. About ten months after the piercing, I had some tenderness around the piercing, and while I never figured out what caused it, it went away fairly quickly and hasn't returned since.

My Dad picked me up at the airport when I came home and simply shook his head when he saw it. My Mom had the same disbelief she'd had when I got my tongue pierced, and my sisters each threw their own hissy fits that I'd dare gotten another piercing. I've had a heck of a time keeping the little hands of my nieces and nephews away from the ring, but I still love the ring. It's been almost a year since I got it, and I still have trouble getting the ball in for my capture ball rings, but I love the look of it and always want more jewelry for it. The only thing I'd like to change is the gauge. It was pierced with an 18 gauge, and I have a difficult time finding jewelry for the piercing. Had I known I'd have this difficulty, I'd have asked him to pierce it with a 16 gauge instead.

I love both of my piercings and as long as they're taken care of properly, recommend the same things to anyone else out there. I'm sure a time will come when I remove them, but I'm happy with them now and that's all that matters.
