Being a working professional (a secretary at a fortune 500 company)I have to be modest with my mods. My workplace only allows one nostril stud as the only facial piercing, which I think is pretty generous considering most other companies only allow one ear lobe piercing only on women and none on men. I have kept everything pretty small scale. I have 4g lobes (goal is 0g), 16g second lobes, 18g helix, 16g tragus, 14g navel, 18g nostril, back piece tattoo. Anyways, My nostril stud is my only facial piercing so I can fit into the work dress code. I have always been in love with the lip and Monroe's but I figured there was no way I could conceal either of those for work. My yearning for another hole was beginning to burn and I knew I just had to get something soon. But what?

I loved how dainty small sizes looked and how easy they were to hide. I think women look beautiful with them and thought it would compliment my face nicely. I knew I must have one! I ran the idea by my husband, who has been pretty accepting of most of my mods (except for my stretched lobes) and he told me he hated septum piercings. I tried to explain to him that there was other jewelry other that CBRs to put in them since he specifically said he hated the "bull nose" look. Still, he said it was a waste of money and thought I should "slow down" with the mods. So I began to think there was no hope for my lovely septum. After some more thinking I realized, what the heck! I'll go for it! My husband will still love me!
Today after work I told my husband I had some errands to run. I drove immediately to my piercer at Saint Tattoo in downtown Knoxville. I graciously accepted my request for a retainer for initial jewelry and agreed that 16g would be a great size for my face. He had me fill out the usual paperwork and brought me back to his extremely clean piercing room. He began to explain the process of the entire piercing from how he will mark it and how it will be pierced. He even explained what the pain would be like. He checked my septum with his gloved fingers to see how my "sweet spot" was, then proceeded to mark everything. He put a cbr ring (without the ball) up to my septum so that I could see how far one would hang down so I could get a general idea of the placement. He showed me the tube he was going to use to put the needle through (he doesn't like to use clamps)and told me to sit straight and take some deep breaths while he lined up the needle. Then he told me to take a deep brea th in and then out. That was it! It felt like a pinch or pulling a nose hair, but gosh did my eyes water! He told me that would happen and he sure wasn't lying about that! He then slid in the retainer and let me take a look at it before he flipped it up. He showed me how to flip it up and down so I can do it myself when I need to. He explained and wrote down everything for my aftercare and made sure I felt okay to leave. I paid, tipped him, then was out the door.
The pain isn't bad at all. It's a little sore now when I bump the bottom of my nose but other than that everything is great! The retainer fits perfectly, even when flipped up, and I recommend everyone to get pierced with a retainer if they want to hide it easily during the healing process. My 16g feels so lightweight! I love it! I don't plan on stretching it, as I like how the 16g looks with my face. Tonight I will do my first salt soak with warm water. I'm really looking forward to it, as I am starting to feel some crusties and boogers getting stuck to it already!
It's been about two hours now and my husband still hasn't noticed. I don't think he will be mad that I actually got one, but more so mad at the fact that I spent money without telling him. You can't see it at all when its flipped up so I'm not worried about him seeing it. I will tell him eventually, just waiting for the right time I guess. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband, but sometimes a girl just needs to be pierced! I'm glad i did it and it makes me feel good to have one thing, one "little secret" all to myself.
