After walking into the only real piercing studio in the town I live in I discovered that the people there weren't very friendly, helpful or modded. I was the only potential customer in the place and they didn't even seem happy to see me. I decided to check out Riverview Tattoo and Body Piercing studio in Brewer, Maine which is the next town over from me. When I got there the sign on the door informed me that they wouldn't be open for another thirty minutes. I chose to wait and I'm glad I did.

While I was sitting outside listening to my mp3 player a guy and girl walked up, both heavily modded and I thought to myself "this is more like it!" We exchanged pleasantries and they let me in even though they wouldn't officially be open for another fifteen minutes. As soon as I walked through the door all I could smell was some kind of cleaner. The aroma wasn't overpowering at all, in fact it was quite pleasant. Then I noticed how neat and orderly everything else was and I knew I'd feel comfortable getting pierced here.

After I looked around and browsed their display case of body jewelry the girl, who happened to be a tattoo artist, her name was Autumn, asked me what I was hoping to get done. When I explained that I wanted to get a septum piercing she informed me that the guy who was with her was named Joel and that he was still an apprentice piercer and that he hasn't learned the art of the septum piercing as of yet.

Anyways, to make a long story short Autumn told me when to come back to see the master piercer. So I did. The day I came back they were pretty busy. It seemed like everyone who worked there was occupied with something. There was a guy I hadn't met previously tattooing another guy who was lying on a table in the corner of the room. Autumn was sketching something on a pad of paper and there were several people standing near the counter and around a table in the center of the room. I guess they were just waiting for their friend who was getting the tattoo because the guy doing the tattooing looked up from what he was doing just long enough to ask me how he could help me. I replied by saying that "I'd like to get a piercing."

It was about that time that Autumn looked up from her sketching and recognizing me from the day before, she hollered to someone in the next room. When he emerged she informed him that I was there to get my septum pierced and that I had come in the other day. He was awesome! He was friendly spent tons of time lining it up. As soon as he said "Deep Breath" it was over! There was no pain! My septum piercing was quite literally painless and it looks amazing! I would definitely recommend it to anyone thinking about getting it done. Not only does it look awesome, but it's easy to hide and extremely comfortable to wear jewelry in.

After he pierced it he gave me a fourteen gauge captive bead ring. I requested that he leave te bead off so that I could still tuck it up inside my nose, So he got out the ring opening pliers and stretched the ring open quite a bit. Just enough to clear either side of my septum. Now when I tuck it up inside for work it's almost one hundred percent invisible. The only time you can see it is if I flare my nostrils.

The aftercare of my piercing has been relatively easy. All I do is clean it twice a day with antibacterial soap. Satin to be exact. I usually do it in the shower. I have a small compact mirror that I use in order to see it easier. I get the mirror wet to combat the fog from the shower. I rub the soap between the palms of my hands in order to get suds. Then I use cotton swabs to apply it to my piercing.

Other than that I have been using emu oil. which I also apply with cotton swabs. The emu oil has a slightly funny scent but it's not unpleasant at all. Just a little strange. I've had it for two weeks now and it feels great. At first it stung quite a bit when I tried to rotate the jewelry, which my piercer informed me not to do because it isn't necessary with this piercing. I only did it to keep the jewelry centered.

Let's see, what other advice can I offer? Oh okay. Wait at least three weeks to change out your initial jewelry.
