This is the story of my septum piercing.
At A Glance Author Synie Contact NoOneCanTouchUs@gmail.com When Three months ago Location Flushing, NY I never really wanted a septum...I always thought they looked kind of strange and they weren't really for me. The only person I actually liked the septum piercing on was Zacky Vengeance from Avenged Sevenfold.
I'm 16 years old and not allowed to have any piercings other then my ears until I move out, so any piercings I get either have to be on my ears, or something I can hide from my dad. I already have my lobes (14g), my cartilage twice, industrial, and my eyebrow. I also have an orbital going around my industrial now, but that I got after I got my septum. I was getting the piercing itch again and trying to figure out what I could get that I would be able to hide. I started thinking of Zacky and his septum...and realized that the septum piercing can be flipped up and hidden. So I searched on BME, read a few experiences, looked at a lot of pictures, and after a month, finally decided to get it.
A friend of mine had told me that May 16th was national piercing day. So I was determined to get a piercing then. Two of my friends said they would come with me because I hate going to get piercings on my own and whenever I decide I want a piercing I pay for piercings if my friends want them too and they come with me. May 16th comes and I call my two friends.
"Oh, we're at a friends house. We'll call you when we're on our way back."
Ok...it gets to be around...6PM and I call them again
"Where are you?"
"Still at her house"
"When are you coming back? The piercing place closes in 2 hours."
"Oh, its raining, we don't want to get a piercing today."
So I argue with them a bit. Then finally just say to hell with them, and go to the piercing place on my own.
I get there, pay for my piercing, sit down in the chair. The piercer comes up to me, and talks to me about my other piercings (he's done almost all of them) and then asks me how I want my septum done. I tell him I need to be able to flip it up, so he says ok and gets a circular barbell to put in it. It's already been autoclaved. He puts on gloves. He feels my septum first to try to find my "sweet spot" which he does. He then changes gloves. Then he opens up a new package of clamps, and a new 14g needle and clamps my septum. He tells me to breathe, which I do, and then counts to 3 and shoves the needle through. It goes through halfway and then meets resistance. I'm in so much pain already and almost crying. He asks me if I want him to keep going and I say yes. He pushes it the rest of the way through and I hear a pop. A tear slides down my cheek. He gives me a minute to sit there, and then puts the jewelery in. He shows me how to flip it up into my nose, and has me do it. I sit for a couple of more seconds cause I'm in a lot of pain still, then get up to leave.
When I get out of the piercing place I call my 2 friends.
"I got my septum done!"
"How much did it hurt?"
"More than any other piercing. It still hurts! And you guys suck for not coming with me!"
"Oh, ok...we'll hang later and you can show it to us."
I realize that when I breathe through my nose, the air goes in, through the hole, and then up the other nostril...its a strange feeling.
I get on the bus to go home and the whole time I'm thinking "Oh my god, if it keeps hurting this much I'm not going to be able to let it heal. I'll have to take it out." About 2 hours later it finally stops hurting a bit, but still hurts like hell every time anything touches my nose. I hang out with my friends later that night and flip it down to show them, then flip it back up because we're messing around and having fun.
Mostly during healing I used the "Leave It The Hell Alone" method except for occasional sea salt soaks when it was acting up and to pick off crusties every morning when I woke up.
Its now been almost 3 months. I keep it flipped up a lot. Its doing great and doesn't hurt at all anymore. I'm still not sure whether or not the piercing looks good on me but I've fallen in love with it and I'm definitely keeping it.
If anyone wants to ask me anything else about it, feel free to e-mail me. I'll probably be back here posting in about a week or 2 when I go to get my tongue pierced.
