I wanted to get my septum pierced for like more than a year, but I didn't go for it 'cause my parents didn't like it and I wasn't brave enough to have it done either, but then I decided I'd better go for it. I am 18 now so actually I don't need my parent's permission. And the septum piercing is one that can be easily hidden so all my problems seemed to be solved, except for me being such a pussy of course, but I really wanted this piercing so.. I stopped caring about the pain.
At A Glance Author Sara Contact Sara@bme.anon When A week ago Artist Lucas Studio Pirate Piercing Location Turnhout, Belgium I had already e-mailed with the girlfriend of a piercer about septum piercings a lot and she always told me that it wasn't that painful and she willingly answered all my questions. After all the good things I heard about her boyfriend, the piercer, I decided to let him pierce my septum.
I had made an appointment for Tuesday so that day, a friend of me and I were heading to Turnhout for me to get pierced. I was really nervous, constantly complaining to my friend about how scared I was and she always comforted me. She's got her lip and her nose pierced and said it didn't hurt at all. That kind of put me more at ease.
Finally we arrived at the piercing shop and the piercer's girlfriend, who does the desk there, asked me if I was ready for it and if I had any questions left but I hadn't. I had already asked her all I had to know in advance. Then she gave me some consent forms to fill in and a sheet with aftercare instructions. She asked me if I had any products to take care of my piercing but since it was my first one (I had only got both earlobes done 3 times) I hadn't, so I had to buy that too. I paid for my piercing (€40) and the aftercare products (€10) and she told me to have a seat while waiting for me to get pierced. The piercer was still busy with another client.
Then my time arrived and my friend and I were led into the piercing area. The piercer asked me to sit down and he put some product on my nose to clean it. Then he coloured the tip of a toothpick and started marking my nose. In advance I had decided to have it done with a barbell with small balls but I asked him if it would be visible from the outside and he had a look at my nose, told me I have a relatively small septum and that you'd be able to see it, so I decided to take a circular barbell instead and flip it up to hide it. Then he asked me to lay down and put the clamps on my nose. "This'll probably be the worst part" he told me, and I was like "Yeah right! :D" 'cause I couldn't believe that only squeezing some skin together would hurt more than jamming a needle through it. Then he asked me to breath in and out and then he pushed the needle through, while I kept my eyes closed 'cause I'd freak out if I saw what he was doing. It didn't go as fast as I thought it would, it took him a few seconds to get it through but I'd rather have him do it slowly and straight, than quick and have a piercing that turns out to be crooked. When the needle was through he removed the clamps, slit the CBR in and flipped it up for me, without the balls screwed on it 'cause it was the smallest ring available and with the balls on it I wouldn't be able to flip it up. Then I got back up and I was surprised that the whole procedure was that painless! My eyes watered a bit but that was it! And he was right about the clamps-part, the actual piercing wasn't more painful than that.
So, done was I, I thanked the piercer and his girlfriend and then my friend and I left the shop.
I am so happy with my new piercing! I'm such a fool to be so scared about it at first, it was nothing, really! Now, a few days later, everything is still fine. No infections and it's healing well. And no pain, which sometimes makes me forget I have the piercing and then I accidentally hit my nose with my hand and that really hurts, but besides that, everything's okay.
I've had my septum done at Pirate Piercing in Turnhout and I'd definitely recommend them to anyone who lives in Belgium and wants to get pierced. They really put you at easy, it's a very hygienic place and Lucas is a great piercer. I'll certainly go back there when I decide to get pierced again.
