Hullo! I'm Anja, and this is my recount of my favourite piercing experience thus far.

Sadly, I was a Piercing-Gun Baby, but even at an early age, I was hooked. I've had a tragus, anti-tragus, two lobe piercings (stretched lovingly to 00s, and 5/16ths), a labret piercing, and a few months ago I got the best thus far- my septum. While I can't imagine not having a few of the piercings I've had, I haven't had one yet that just seemed to not just excite me, and delight me, but seem to complete me aesthetically.

Silly me, I didn't think to get an appointment. I'd just heard wonderful things about Tattooed Heart, and stopped in one day to see if I could squeaze myself in. While waiting, I talked to a few of the tattoo artists who were absolutely lovely gents, and marveled over the full sleeves of theirs. Gorgeous stuff! I was definately impressed with their work, and how personable they were. Then I met my piercer, and unfortunately I can't remember her name, three months later. It's unfortunate, because she was just the nicest person, and had her own septum done, and up to a ten gauge.

So I've been nervous about needles alot in life, which is silly considering how often I get stuck with them. Before my pregnancy, I was donating plasma twice a week, for months and months, and was used to this 17g. needle in my arm. The piercer was a peach, though, and showed me through the cleaning process, and then the jewelry. She reviewed aftercare, and exactly how to sea salt soak my nose without snorting it up (which apparently was a problem with her friends- how silly!) She was incredibly comfortable and nice, and made me at ease immediately. Now onto the needle!

Now comes the fun part. First my nose was cleaned with a Q-tip (I expected this, and tried it out before hand. Very nice feeling, and I used that for some nice after-piercing cleaning when needed. I'm gross, I know.) After cleaning my nose, she was very happy with putting her fingers up there and looking it over, and actually told me that I had 'A very nice, very pretty septum.' and she might have said she was in love with it. She does alot of septum piercings, and made me giggle. I picked a standard 14g horseshoe style ring, and smallish balls for it (haha. tell me that's not fun to say!).

So my lovely piercing was placed in, what I think, is perfect for my face. it's higher up in my nose, about a millimetre back, and it takes a bit of work to get at it, since the actual hole needs a mirror and a bit of work to see. I actually have to nudge my nose around to see it, but that's just what I wanted. Most of the hoop is outside of my nose, but the hole is protected from the cold a bit better, and isn't apt to be mussed with. Perfect, since I'm moving to northern Indiana, right off the lake and all it's nasty effects, this winter.

Definately the best part of all of this was sitting up after a moment and seeing it. No other piercing has been done and just immediately looked like it fit me, instead of just adorning me. The few times I've tucked it up for job interviews and the like, I've looked in the mirror and felt like something was very wrong. It was like seeing myself without my glasses in the middle of the day, or without eyebrows. It just felt, and looked, wrong. My piercer also seemed delighted, and actually giggled and clapped her hands when it was in, and I was looking at it. She said exactly what I was thinking- 'It was perfect!'. I felt like it was incredibly me, and I spent the next while shaking my head a bit, to make the jewelry jiggle around a bit. I don't like wearing acrylic balls in it, but metal, since with acrylic it's more prone to slip around, and not have that touch of weight that I absolutely adore.

In closing, I love my septum piercing more than I could relate. There's no other mod I've done; tattoo, piercing, hairdye, or anything else I've sought out, that I feel more complete with. I never leave the house without eyeliner and foundation, being a vain little thing, but I'd rather go out barefaced that tuck up this little beauty. I'm a huge fan of graduating sizes, and that's what I've strived for with my ears, and I'm considering getting a second septum done lower, and putting a smaller ring up top. If I do or don't, I know I'll love my septum, and I can't imagine retiring it. Hope everyone else loves their septums as much as I love mine, and I'd recommend it to anyone!
