Getting my nose pierced was a huge deal for me. I've bugged my mum to get one ever since I saw my sister get hers 3 years ago. I finally broke her down and convinced her to let me get my nose pierced. I talked her into letting me get it in the summer because I told her that I'd be able to take care of it better (which is true). I was able to get my nose pierced on one condition; I had to take out my gauges in my ears. I've had my ears gauged since I was 11, so it was a tough decision for me. But I wanted my nose pierced, so I agreed.
At A Glance Author Holly Contact Holly@bme.anon When It just happened Artist Mark Studio 12 Oz Studios Location Brooklawn NJ Yesterday my mum and I called the studio to make sure Mark would be there. After getting lost when trying to get to 12 oz, my Mum & I finally get there. =) I see a guy w/ HUGE gauges in his ear & his nose pierced; he asks how he can help me. I said, "I wanna get my nose pierced." He responded with "why would you wanna do something crazy like that?" So I said, "Because I am crazy." =) He laughed and told me to follow him. Turns out, this would be my piercer, Mark.
Mark asked how old I was and since I'm only 15, he asked if I had my school ID. I told him I had my birth certificate & my school ID. He told me he loves it when people make his job easy. So I had to fill out this paper & my mum had to sign another one. While that was going on, he made copies of my birth certificate, ID, and my mum's driver's license. No big deal.
He comes back out and hands me my stuff & my mum her ID back. He asks what I wanted, a ring or stud. I chose a stud, since I don't like rings for girls. He told me I could choose from blue, pink, or clear. I chose blue. He commented that it was the same color as my eye shadow. Cute, huh? So Mark asked what side I wanted it on. I had no clue, so I asked him which side would look better. He had me look at him and he said that my nose was pretty straight so either side. He asked to look at my ears to see if I had an uneven amount, no such luck, just 3 in each. So he said either. I decided on my left side, since I'm left handed.
So Mark takes me into the room and tells me to sit down on the chair. He explained everything he was doing. He told me what the receiving tube did and obviously, how he was gonna pierce it. He opened all of the packages in front of me, which was a good thing. I told him that the needle wasn't as big as I thought it would be. He just said that it was a 16g. His friend, Mikey, asked if he could watch. Since I'm not a wuss, I told him sure. Mark told me that he was gonna have me breathe in and hold my breath, as I exhale, he'd pierce me. Exactly how I wanted it. I asked him how long he had his nose pierced for, and he said about 4 years. So he kept me in conversation throughout the whole thing.
He had me inhale and exhale as he pierced it, just like he said he would. As I opened my eyes, it wasn't too bad. He saw I was tearing a little bit, so he handed me a paper towel and said that it was normal. I closed my eyes again & he put my little stud in my nose. I open them and look at Mikey. I asked how it looked and he responded with "Bling Bling".
After I was pierced, we talked for a little while about the aftercare and what I should do if anything happens. Mark was really good and resourceful. He told me if I have any problems or questions, just to call him. He was cool. After going through the care & stuff he talked to me for a little while just to make sure I was okay and wouldn't pass out or anything.
One of the last things Mark told me and my mum was to "keep my dirty, grimy girl hands away from it". It made me laugh a lot. But Mark did an amazing job. He didn't have an attitude or anything and was really helpful. I was pleased that it was only $50. But as soon as I walked into 12 oz Studios, I knew that I would have a good experience, just by the atmosphere. The piercing itself was virtually painless. I didn't even know when Mark put the needle through my nose. The studio was clean and the people, not even just Mark, were extremely friendly. 12 Oz Studios was definitely worth the trip.
