Ever since I was little, body modifications had fascinated me. When I was about 12 or 13 I really wanted my nose pierced. I already had pierced my ears thrice by myself. (never pierce things yourself, kids, it's not safe.) My mother and I were going through rough times and fought muchly (most confrentations were initiated by myself), and her refusal to let me get my nose pierced of course made me even more angry, which caused me to do other destructive things. And so, like my ears, I did it myself. (I cannot stress this enough, DO NOT PIERCE THINGS BY YOURSELF.) I had done all of this while I was homeschooling, and when my parents made me go to real school, I had to take them all out and they all closed up. I really missed my nosering.

Flash forward to 5 years later. My mother and I have made up since then, but lately have been going through rough times again (confrentations are now being initiated by her). Well it's my senior year, and the night before the first day of school I hear an announcement on the radio, that Crazy Cajun in Abbeville is having a sale. All piercings are 10$ including jewelry, Thursday(the next day) only. I thought I was dreaming. I called the radio station to make sure it was true, and it was. This was the perfect time to get my precious holy nose back, AND the perfect present for senior year. My mom agreed to let me get it done because it was so cheap and she knew I was angry with her, and she felt bad for what had been going on. She figured it would be the perfect apology present. (it did help a little, but really, you can't buy forgiveness.)

After school she took me to the place. I was so nervous. I couldn't remember how much it hurt when i was 12, so throughout the day I was pinching my nose with my fingernails to see just how much it would really hurt. It wasn't terrible, but it did hurt enough to make me say ouch, which takes alot because I have a pretty high tolerance for pain. We filled out the paperwork and whatnot, then I sat down and called my boyfriend. He wasn't home, and he didn't know I was getting this done. I decided to just wait and suprise him. I then called my friend Casey, who already had hers pierced. She helped me calm down some.

Finally it was my turn. Brian, the piercer, was nice. The little room was comforting, it was painted a nice shade of red and had amusing pictures on it. There was a mirror above the door, with a picture of Speed Racer. I began to sing the Speed Racer theme song, which calmed me down even more. He closed the door, put on his gloves and took out the jewelry, needle and clamps. He didn't clean my nose, I didn't notice until everything was all done, and I was somewhat worried. He marked the spot on my left nostril, but I felt it was a little too high and so he lowered it a tad. He told me to close my eyes and it would just be a quick stick. I did so, I felt a small poke, which was actually quite painless. He had left the needle sitting in my nose for a little while. My mom screamed "YOU HAVE A FUCKING PIN HANGING THROUGH YOUR NOSE!" I opened my eyes a little and looked in the mirror, and she was right. It was just hanging in my nose and bleeding. I couldn't help but laugh. I closed my eyes again and kept laughing as he took it out and inserted the jewelry. I laughed so hard I snorted. Brian made me open my eyes, gave me a funny look, and told me how to clean it. Even though it didn't hurt, I did get dizzy and almost passed out.

It didn't bleed that much. I even kept the paper towel it bled on as a souvenire. They gave me a bottle of purified salt water to clean it with, I also clean it with alcohol twice a day. It has been almost a month, I think it's pretty much healed, but I am going to wait another month before I change it. The only problem I have had thus far was it got ripped out with a towel when I was washing my face. It took me about a half hour to get it back in and it bled quite a bit, but I cleaned it as I would normally and now it is fine. I have gotten many compliments on it. If you are thinking of doing it, I highly recommend stop thinking and just go for it.
