I have pierced ears but I don't wear earrings except for the one I have in the cartilage of my ear. I used to have 3 holes in each ear, but don't like the look of pierced ears, so i took out the earrings about 4 years ago. I had seen nose piercings and liked the look, but never thought much of them much less ever getting one myself! I have tattoos, got my first one at 21 and it's true what they say, 'Once you get one, You want more'. As I got older (I'm 33) I started to like nose piercings more and more and then within the past month, it became an OBSESSION!

I started doing research online. I was reading about experiences and looking at pictures. That's when I found this website. I have a cousin who has a nose piercing so I asked her about her experience too. I was apprehensive about the pain and the healing process. I also work in an office where nose piercings aren't the norm.

One day I went into a tattoo and piercing place because I had mustered enough courage to go do it. I waited at the front but no one came forward, they were all doing tattoos. So I just left. I was kind of disappointed because I had all this courage and decided to finally do it, but to no avail.

Then on another night, about 3 days later, I saw a tattoo place by my house and decided it was time. So I went into Absolute Tattoo and asked for the piercer. The girl behind the desk said he wouldn't be in until the next day at noon. UGH! Again..had the courage..denied!

I went home and told my husband that I was going back the next day and doing it!

I went to work at 8am ,and all I thought about was "NOON". I was so nervous and kept looking at the time.. Finally noon came around and I left. I got to Absolute Tattoo in about 10 minutes and asked for the piercer. The lady behind the counter pointed to Nick Fish. He told me it would take him about 5 minutes to set up. So I stood there waiting and almost punked out.. but then he came out and said he was ready.

We went into this little room and told me to sit and relax. He had all of his "equipment" on a silver tray. He put on gloves and explained what he was going to do and showed me this hollow tube that protects the needle from going out the other side. He cleaned and marked the area and told me to breath. Before i knew it I felt a pinch, like a shot. As soon as the needle was through, the pain stopped. It felt strange. Then he put the jewelry through, I had chosen the nose screw. That kind of pinched as well when it first came through the piercing, but again, as soon as it broke the surface, the pain was gone.

My eyes watered like crazy and I bled some and he told me to relax before I got up and he asked me if I was light headed at all, and I wasn't. He held gauze to my nose to help stop the bleeding and then went through the after-care procedures. I was in the room a total of 5 minutes. The needle/jewelry action took like 2 minutes.

I paid him, $45.00...$35.00 plus $10.00 tip, he gave me his card (he also does tattoos)and left. I was back to work by 12:45. From the time I left work until I got back was 45 minutes!

I had to go back the next day because my nose was swollen a little and I thought I needed a bigger stud. I walked in and Nick was there again and he saw what was wrong and immediatly took me into the piercing room and took out the old screw and put in the new one with a longer tail. Now that part hurt worse than the actual piercing. Because he had to take it out and put one back in and the piercing was raw. But he made it all better and said if I needed anything more to just come in. So if any of you out there starts out with a screw, use one with a longer tail in case your nose swells.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. There is pain involved but there are things in life that are more painful. I look at people now and wonder why they don't have it. My boss wants one now and a few of the girls at work are in the "thinking about it" phase. My husband loves it and so does my mother. This is the person who cried when i showed her my first tattoo. Nose piercing isn't as taboo as it once was, it's becoming more "mainstream". Also my experience was helped by my piercer, Nick Fish. He was great. And not bad to look at, either. Now i wonder why i didn't get it done sooner!
