A nose piercing...something I had always thought about and seeing more and more of them, I knew I had to do it. The only thing that set me back for so long was the fact that I suffer from unbearable allergies, but at this point I didn't care. I also live in a small town in northern Iowa where there are no decent places to get a good tattoo, so my friends and I decided to travel an hour drive to Ames. The Asylum has a good reputation, I suggest anyone to go there!

They were expecting their shipment of new jewelry the next day, but all I cared about was getting pierced! So my friend and I walked across the street to another piercing place, called Lasting Impressions. I have some friends that have gotten pretty good tattoos there, but I didn't know of anyone who had gotten pierced there. I decided to buy a nose screw and take it back to the Asylum and be pierced there. Maybe this is where everything went wrong...
Okay, so the piercing itself went well. I didn't think it hurt very much, I just didn't like how my right eye watered when it was pierced. Wow, I loved my new piercing! I was so excited to go to school the following day to show it off. Again, I live in a small town with a small school, so I would be the first with a nose piercing.
The next morning is when everything started to go wrong. I was washing my face, careful around my new piercing. Yet I knew I had to make sure my makeup was washed off around it. Well, my wash cloth caught on my new piercing and out came my jewelry! Frantically, I searched for my screw so I could put it back in. Little did I know how hard it would be to put it back in. I tried, and I tried, and I tried. I started swearing because I was getting frustrated with each failing attempt to put my screw back in. I knew the clock was ticking and school would be starting soon. Finally, I gave up.
Wait, I thought...I had an idea. I decided to go to Ames again that day, at that moment, and get it re-pierced before scar tissue was formed. I called the Asylum and told them I was on my way. Luckily, I didn't get charged to get it pierced again. So the first couple of days went by well, I wasn't having problems and my hopes were rising - my new piercing was healing great! Plus everyone at school complimented me and told me how good it looked on me.
I knew my luck would run out and surely enough, it did. About a week later I was in the shower and proceeded to wash my face. I was extra careful now, I didn't want another mishap. That morning I was in a hurry because I was late for school and then...oh no...my screw came out again! Hurriedly I jumped out of the shower and tried to put it back in...and tried...and tried. "This can't be happening to me!" is what I thought to myself. Maybe a nose piercing wasn't for me.
Still, I envied those with their nose piercings and I wanted mine back. About two weeks passed and I could no longer stand it. I was going to make this work, maybe the third time's a charm! So I traveled down to the Asylum again and instead of getting it pierced on my opposite nostril, I wanted it done on the side that had been pierced previously. What a mistake! There was so much scar tissue that I cringed when the needle was put through...so much pain! Yet I didn't care, my nose was pierced again!
About a week went by and things were going well again. Until one morning, to my horror, I woke up and my screw was missing! I have fake nails, so I came to the conclusion that I must have scratched my nose in my sleep and make the screw come right out. I didn't realize how easily they come out. I searched my room and my bed for the missing screw but it was no where to be found. I felt embarrassed at this experience...how could such a simple nose piercing go so wrong? I couldn't understand!
Sadly enough, I've realized that maybe a nose piercing isn't for me, as much as I wanted it to be. Yet I am still determined to make it work! Maybe I was going at this the wrong way...or the wrong side. Hey, I do have another nostril that hasn't been pierced!
